Fanatec Podium Button Module Rally

Official M-Sport WRC button module: 280 g, RGB-backlit buttons, two D-pads, three 12-way switches and 1" OLED

Description

The Fanatec Podium Button Module Rally is an official M-Sport World Rally Team product, designed for and used in the 2022 and 2023 Ford Puma Hybrid Rally1 WRC cars. It connects to a Fanatec hub via DataPort-C and turns most 6x70 mm rims into a rally wheel.

Mounting. The module mounts in front of the rim with an included aluminum adapter ring, not between rim and hub, so it needs no longer bolts and adds no flex or play to the steering. It weighs 280 g including the ring and has a carbon fiber front plate.

Inputs. Nine buttons with 600 g activation force and RGB backlighting (color and brightness adjustable), interchangeable button inserts, two D-pads in the thumb positions and three 12-way multi-position switches with programmable color and a rotary encoder option. A sticker set reproduces the M-Sport layout.

Display. A 1" OLED shows telemetry such as speed or gear through the Fanatec SDK and gives access to the Tuning Menu with the Tuning button and D-pad.

Compatibility. Hubs (required): Podium Hub, ClubSport Universal Hub V2 and V2 for Xbox. Rims: Podium R911/R911S and R300, ClubSport R330, 320, 320 Alcantara, GT, GT Alcantara, SPARCO GT, Rally and Formula rims, and the SPARCO R383. Bases: Podium DD1/DD2, ClubSport DD/DD+, CSL DD and Gran Turismo DD Pro. PC; PlayStation with a licensed base; Xbox with the ClubSport Universal Hub V2 for Xbox.

Driving style

The Podium Button Module Rally comes from M-Sport's Ford Puma Hybrid Rally1 cars, where drivers need to hit engine, regen and boost settings quickly between stages. Its firm 600 g buttons, D-pads under the thumbs and backlit 12-way switches suit EA SPORTS WRC, DiRT Rally 2.0, Richard Burns Rally and Assetto Corsa Rally, and because it sits in front of the rim it works with round rally rims like the SPARCO R383 or ClubSport Wheel Rim SPARCO Rally. Fanatec says it can also serve other disciplines, adding Tuning Menu access to the Podium Hub.

Best for rally and rallycross drivers building a round or deep-dish wheel on a Podium Hub or ClubSport Universal Hub V2; less suited for GT endurance racers who want a large telemetry display, or for drivers who expect paddles in the box. On Overtake.gg, some commenters questioned whether rally needs this many inputs, while others noted that Rally1 cars don't use paddle shifters either.

Build quality

Premium build

The module uses a carbon fiber front plate on a compact, lightweight body tested by M-Sport for rally conditions, and weighs 280 g with its aluminum adapter ring. Buttons have a 600 g activation force with interchangeable inserts, and both buttons and switches are RGB-backlit. Because it mounts in front of the rim, it does not add flex between rim and hub.

Software

The module is configured in the Fanatec App for Windows, which also updates its firmware with the hub and base, and FanaLab sets the color and brightness of the button and switch backlighting. The 1-inch OLED shows telemetry such as speed or gear in games that support the Fanatec SDK and gives access to the Tuning Menu.

On PlayStation it needs a PlayStation-licensed Fanatec base, and on Xbox the ClubSport Universal Hub V2 for Xbox; Fanatec notes that console functionality can be limited. Fanatec forum users report that early display glitches were a known firmware issue and that the base firmware must be up to date for the module to be detected on PS5.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a hub to use the Podium Button Module Rally?

Yes. Fanatec says it must be connected to a compatible hub to work with a Fanatec base: the Podium Hub, ClubSport Universal Hub V2 or ClubSport Universal Hub V2 for Xbox. It connects to the hub through DataPort-C.

Which rims and wheel bases work with the Podium Button Module Rally?

It fits rims with a 6x70 mm pattern, including the Podium R911/R911S and R300, ClubSport R330, 320, GT, SPARCO GT, Rally and Formula rims, and the SPARCO R383. Supported bases are Podium DD1/DD2, ClubSport DD/DD+, CSL DD and Gran Turismo DD Pro; support for ClubSport V2.5 and CSL Elite bases is listed as coming soon.

Does the Podium Button Module Rally include paddle shifters?

No. It is a button module only, and the Podium Hub has no paddles either; the ClubSport Universal Hub V2 includes magnetic paddles, and the Podium Hub accepts the Podium Advanced Paddle Module. Overtake.gg commenters noted that the real Rally1 cars it comes from do not use paddle shifters.

How is the Rally module different from the Podium Button Module Endurance?

The Rally module mounts in front of the rim, weighs 280 g and focuses on backlit buttons, two D-pads and three 12-way switches with a 1-inch OLED. The Endurance module mounts between hub and rim, weighs 410 g and adds a 2.7-inch OLED with Intelligent Telemetry Mode, RevLEDs and an analog stick. The Rally fits more rims, including the ClubSport Wheel Rim GT, which the Endurance does not.

Are there known issues with the Podium Button Module Rally?

Several owners on Fanatec's forum reported garbled display readouts and the module not being recognized at power-on; a Fanatec moderator confirmed the display problem as a known firmware issue, and reconnecting or power-cycling the base often helped. Another user found it was not detected on PS5 until the base firmware was updated.

Can I customize the backlighting and switch functions?

Yes. Button and switch colors and brightness are set in FanaLab, and the three 12-way switches can work as multi-position switches or rotary encoders. Interchangeable inserts and the included sticker set let you relabel buttons, including the exact M-Sport layout.

Is the Podium Button Module Rally worth the price?

It costs $309.99 on Fanatec US (€269.95 in the EU) and still needs a hub and rim. Community reactions are split: some value owning genuine WRC hardware, while others on Overtake.gg and Fanatec's forum called it expensive for the number of inputs rally games actually use.

Does the button module work fully on Xbox?

Fanatec lists Xbox compatibility with the ClubSport Universal Hub V2 for Xbox, but notes functionality can be limited by the console. A Fanatec forum user doubted that the display and dials would be fully usable on Xbox, and another reported the module stopping after a driver update on Xbox while working with support.
