Fanatec Podium Advanced Paddle Module

Magnetic shifters plus dual Hall-sensor analog clutch paddles for Fanatec wheels and hubs

Description

The Fanatec Podium Advanced Paddle Module replaces the standard paddle module on compatible Fanatec steering wheels and hubs. It combines magnetic shift paddles with dual analog clutch paddles, adding two analog axes and extra buttons to the wheel.

Magnetic shifters. The shift paddles use magnets instead of steel springs for a firm, positive click and fast shifts, and the springless mechanism is tested for one million cycles. Each side adds two extra buttons, useful for functions such as DRS.

Analog clutch paddles. Two gold anodized aluminum clutch paddles use contactless Hall sensors. On supported wheels they can run in four modes: F1-style clutch with an adjustable bite point saved in the Tuning Menu, clutch/handbrake, brake/throttle, or a freely mappable analog axis. The bite point works in firmware, so any game with an analog clutch axis can use it.

Build. A CNC-machined aluminum cage holds 3 mm carbon fiber shifter plates. Two sets of plates are included: GT plates for wheels larger than 28 cm and Formula plates for smaller wheels.

Compatibility. Fanatec lists the Podium Hub, ClubSport Universal Hub V2 and V2 for Xbox, ClubSport Steering Wheel Formula V2, V2.5, V2.5 X and V3, ClubSport RS, ClubSport BMW GT2 V2, CSL Elite F1 Esports V2 and the ClubSport F1 2018-2021 wheels. On the older ClubSport Universal Hub for Xbox One some units may show a deadzone on the clutch axes. CSL-tier wheels are not compatible. Platform support follows the wheel and base it is installed on.

Driving style

The Podium Advanced Paddle Module is built for formula and GT drivers who want real clutch paddles on a Fanatec wheel. Its F1-style bite point launch suits F1 25, iRacing open-wheel series, Assetto Corsa Competizione and Le Mans Ultimate, where race starts matter, and the magnetic shifters give a sharp, fast shift for sprint and endurance racing alike. Setting one clutch paddle as an analog handbrake also helps in drifting and rally stages with a round wheel such as the ClubSport RS.

It fits competitive league racers and enthusiasts already using a compatible ClubSport or Podium wheel or hub who want more analog inputs without buying a new wheel. Best for formula and GT racers who need clutch launches and fast shifts; less suited for CSL-tier wheel owners, who cannot fit it, and casual drivers who will not use clutch paddles.

Build quality

Premium build

The module uses a CNC-machined aluminum cage, 3 mm carbon fiber shifter plates and solid gold anodized aluminum clutch paddles, with magnets instead of springs and Hall sensors that have no contact wear. Users describe the paddles as sturdy with strong, positive feedback. A few owners on the Fanatec forum report a mounting screw backing out or loose connectors, so the fit depends on careful installation, but materials and construction are at Podium level.

Software

The Podium Advanced Paddle Module has no firmware or driver of its own. It works through the wheel or hub it is installed on and the Fanatec wheel base, so the latest base and wheel firmware should be installed via the Fanatec driver package or Fanatec App on a Windows PC. Clutch modes and the bite point are set in the Tuning Menu, reachable from the wheel display, the Fanatec Control Panel or FanaLab.

On console it is plug-and-play once installed: Xbox requires an Xbox-licensed Fanatec wheel or hub, and PlayStation requires a PlayStation-licensed base or wheel. On PC, the extra buttons and analog axes can be mapped in any sim, and tools like SimHub can read them for custom bindings.

Frequently asked questions

Which Fanatec wheels and hubs are compatible with the Podium Advanced Paddle Module?

Fanatec lists the Podium Hub, ClubSport Universal Hub V2 and V2 for Xbox, ClubSport Formula V2, V2.5, V2.5 X and V3, ClubSport RS, ClubSport BMW GT2 V2, CSL Elite F1 Esports V2 and the ClubSport F1 2018-2021 wheels. It replaces the wheel's existing paddle module.

Does it work with CSL steering wheels?

No, with one exception. Fanatec states CSL-tier steering wheels are not compatible with paddle modules because of their design. The CSL Elite Steering Wheel F1 Esports V2 is the only CSL wheel on the compatibility list.

Does it work on Xbox and PlayStation?

Platform support follows the wheel and base it is installed on. On Xbox you need an Xbox-licensed Fanatec wheel or hub, such as the ClubSport Universal Hub V2 for Xbox. On PlayStation you need a PlayStation-licensed setup. The module itself has no firmware.

How hard is it to install?

It is a bolt-on job with included hex keys: open the wheel's rear cover or the hub's front cover, unplug and unbolt the standard paddles, then bolt on the module and plug in its connectors. Some wheels need a 2.5 mm or 3 mm Allen key that is not included. Use the GT plates for wheels over 28 cm and the Formula plates for smaller ones.

How do the magnetic shift paddles feel?

Fanatec describes a solid, positive click from magnets instead of springs. Users on GTPlanet describe the shift feel as sturdy and among the best they have used, with one noting the firm action can tire the hand over long races.

How does the clutch bite point work for race starts?

In F1 mode you set a bite point (for example in Advanced mode by holding a paddle and turning the FunkySwitch), saved per Tuning Menu slot. At the start you pull both paddles, release one to drop to the bite point, then release the other once moving. It runs in firmware, so it works in any game with an analog clutch axis.

Can one of the clutch paddles be used as a handbrake?

Yes. Besides the F1 clutch mode, the paddles can be set to clutch/handbrake, brake/throttle or a freely mappable analog axis on supported wheels, selected in the Tuning Menu.

Are there known issues with the module?

Fanatec warns some units on the older ClubSport Universal Hub for Xbox One may show a deadzone on the clutch axes. On the Fanatec forum, individual users report a mounting screw backing out and the module intermittently stopping until the base is restarted; Fanatec pointed to loose connectors or the quick release and recommended a support ticket.

How is it different from the ClubSport Magnetic Paddle Module?

The ClubSport Magnetic Paddle Module, preinstalled on wheels like the Formula V3 and RS, gives magnetic shift paddles only. The Podium Advanced Paddle Module adds dual Hall-sensor analog clutch paddles and two extra buttons per side, which is why Fanatec offers it as the upgrade for clutch paddles.

Is the Podium Advanced Paddle Module worth the price?

It costs $229.99 at Fanatec US and €199.95 in Europe. Early buyers on GTPlanet considered it worth it for the shift feel, while others found it borderline expensive. It makes most sense if you use clutch starts or want an analog handbrake on a wheel you already own.

What should I do if the paddles stop responding?

Fanatec suggests checking the connections first: the module's cables and connectors inside the wheel or hub and the quick release between wheel and base. Keep base and wheel firmware current. If the problem persists, open a support ticket from the My Products section of your Fanatec account.
