Fanatec CSL Elite Steering Wheel Porsche Vision GT

310 mm Porsche-licensed wheel with cast aluminum frame and seven encoders

Description

The Fanatec CSL Elite Steering Wheel Porsche Vision GT is the officially licensed wheel of the Porsche Vision Gran Turismo concept car, adapted for sim racing. It measures 310 mm, uses a diecast aluminum structure that keeps the concept's spoke cutouts, and is covered in Tactaris, Fanatec's synthetic suede.

Controls. Eight push buttons (two integrated into the rim) and seven rotary encoders: four custom encoders on the spokes and rim, two 12-position Multi-Position Switches with rotary-encoder mode, and a 7-way FunkySwitch. The Porsche crest is the Tuning Menu button, and the OLED display shows the Tuning Menu and telemetry such as gear and speed.

Paddles. Integrated magnetic shifters with aluminum paddles. There are no clutch paddles.

Gran Turismo 7. The encoders map to GT7's quick-access adjustments for traction control, brake balance and fuel mapping; Fanatec notes these MFD features work best with a Gran Turismo DD Pro or ClubSport DD+.

Compatibility. Works on Windows PC and on PlayStation with a PlayStation-licensed Fanatec base; it is not Xbox compatible. Compatible bases include CSL DD, Gran Turismo DD Pro, ClubSport DD, ClubSport DD+ and Podium DD1/DD2, plus CSL Elite and ClubSport V2/V2.5 bases with a separately purchased QR1 Wheel-Side. It runs in High Torque Mode on ClubSport DD/DD+ and Podium bases with the preinstalled QR2 Lite.

Driving style

The CSL Elite Porsche Vision GT is the official wheel of the Porsche Vision Gran Turismo concept, a 310 mm aluminium wheel with magnetic shifters that brings a futuristic Porsche cockpit to your rig. It suits GT racing and Gran Turismo-style events in GT7 and on PC, with enough buttons for assists and telemetry without cluttering the clean design. Best for GT racing and Gran Turismo-style events; less suited for rally, drifting and formula cars that expect different rim shapes and input layouts.

Build quality

Mid-range build

The wheel pairs an aluminium construction with a 310 mm rim and magnetic shifters, a step above the plastic starter wheels while stopping short of Podium-grade carbon. Fit and finish follow Porsche's design language, with solid paddle feel from the magnetic mechanism and a rigid front structure for the official concept layout. It is durable, well-balanced consumer hardware: metal where it matters, composites where cost requires, with no looseness in the paddles or hub.

Software

The CSL Elite Porsche Vision GT runs entirely through the Fanatec base it mounts to: firmware, Tuning Menu and force feedback settings are configured in the Fanatec App for Windows PC, which also updates the base and the quick release electronics. On console, compatibility follows the base: pair it with a PlayStation-licensed base for PS4 and PS5, while PC works with any Fanatec base. On console its natural home is PlayStation, paired with a PlayStation-licensed base for Gran Turismo 7. Inputs and telemetry use the Fanatec SDK in supported games, and SimHub can push custom dashboards to compatible displays.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Porsche Vision GT wheel work on Xbox?

No. Fanatec and reviewers list it for Windows PC and PlayStation only. On PS4/PS5 it needs a PlayStation-licensed Fanatec base such as the Gran Turismo DD Pro or ClubSport DD+.

Can I use it at full torque on a ClubSport DD or Podium base?

Yes. Fanatec states the wheel launched without torque restrictions and runs in High Torque Mode with the preinstalled QR2 Lite on ClubSport DD/DD+ and Podium bases. Fanatec does not recommend using it with a QR1 Lite Wheel-Side.

How well does it work with Gran Turismo 7?

Fanatec maps its encoders to GT7's quick adjustments for traction control, brake balance and fuel mapping. Reviewers confirm this works, but note there is no dedicated GT7 preset, some buttons are hard-coded, and the 12-position switches do nothing in GT7.

How do the shifters and encoders feel?

Reviewers praise the magnetic shifters as short-throw with no play, and the encoders for their defined clicks. Some find the encoders stiff for sweaty thumbs, and one review reports occasional skipped or double inputs; another found the shifters somewhat loud.

Is the Tactaris grip durable?

Fanatec describes Tactaris as durable, comfortable and easy to clean. Reviewers say it feels close to Alcantara and works bare-handed; one review mentions user reports of wear over time, though the reviewer saw none.

Porsche Vision GT or CSL Steering Wheel GT3?

Fanatec positions the Vision GT as the more premium option, with a cast aluminum frame and Tactaris grips, aimed at Gran Turismo and PlayStation users. The CSL GT3 is cheaper, all-plastic with rubber grips, adds dual clutch paddles and is designed for Xbox. Both work on PC.

Is it worth the price?

It sells for $349.99 at Fanatec and Best Buy in the US. DG Edge scores price 9/10 and calls it a solid licensed option for the money; SimRacingCockpit notes the McLaren GT3 V2 was about 30% cheaper but rates this wheel's build, shifters and encoders higher.
