ClubSport Universal Hub V2 bundled with the billet-aluminum, FIA-standard QR2 Pro

Description

The Fanatec ClubSport Universal Hub V2 + QR2 Pro Wheel-side combines the ClubSport Universal Hub V2 with the QR2 Pro quick release, CNC-machined from aviation-grade billet aluminum and built to FIA standards.

Rims. Threaded holes for 6 x 70 mm and 3 x 50 mm patterns fit all current Fanatec rims and many MOMO, Sparco and OMP rims. It comes pre-configured for the ClubSport Wheel Rim GT or similar.

Controls. Preinstalled ClubSport Magnetic Paddle Module (CNC aluminum cage, 3 mm anodized aluminum plates, neodymium magnets, small and large paddles), 16 integrated buttons on top, four movable three-button clusters (a fifth can be added), a 7-way FunkySwitch, Tuning Menu button and a three-digit LED display that mounts upright or flat. Paddles, clusters and FunkySwitch can be removed to save weight.

Driving style

The ClubSport Universal Hub V2 + QR2 Pro is for drivers who want to build a custom wheel around a rim they love, such as a Sparco, MOMO or OMP rally or road rim, or any Fanatec ClubSport rim, with the full GT-style control set. It suits GT, rally, drift and road racing in ACC, iRacing, EA SPORTS WRC, Assetto Corsa and Gran Turismo 7, with the Podium Button Module Endurance as an endurance upgrade.

It fits PC and PlayStation drivers who want the premium QR2 Pro look and FIA-standard metal quick release. Best for custom GT and rally wheel builds on Fanatec bases; less suited for Xbox players and buyers on a budget, since the standard QR2 bundle performs the same.

Build quality

Premium build

The hub uses a CNC-machined aluminum paddle cage, anodized aluminum paddle plates and neodymium magnets, and reviewers describe its real carbon fiber front plate as stiff and clearly better than the CSL hub. The QR2 Pro is CNC-machined billet aluminum built to FIA standards; Overtake.gg found no functional difference from the standard die-cast QR2 beyond looks and certification.

Software

The Tuning Menu button, FunkySwitch and three-digit LED display give on-wheel access to Fanatec force feedback and hardware settings, and the display can show telemetry from compatible games or third-party software. Firmware updates and full configuration run through the Windows-only Fanatec App.

Full functionality is only guaranteed on PC; on PlayStation it can be limited by the console and game. SimHub can drive the display and map the hub's inputs on PC.

Frequently asked questions

Which rims can I mount on the ClubSport Universal Hub V2?

Any rim with a 6 x 70 mm or 3 x 50 mm pattern, which covers all current Fanatec rims and many MOMO, Sparco and OMP rims. Buttons and paddles are harder to reach with large dished rims.

Which wheel bases and platforms does it support?

Fanatec lists the Podium DD/DD1/DD2, ClubSport DD and DD+, ClubSport V2/V2.5, CSL Elite (all versions), CSL DD and Gran Turismo DD Pro. It works on Windows PC and PlayStation (functionality can be limited); it is not compatible with Xbox.

Is the QR2 Pro better than the standard QR2?

The QR2 Pro is CNC-machined billet aluminum built to FIA standards, while the standard QR2 is die-cast aluminum. Overtake.gg's review found no functional difference beyond looks and certification, and both gave a secure, flex-free connection.

How does the QR2 feel compared with QR1?

Overtake.gg found QR2 removes the play some QR1 units had, so small road details come through more clearly; with strong forces the difference was small. QR2 is not backward compatible with QR1 base-sides.

How solid is the hub itself?

A SimRacingCockpit reviewer found the Universal Hub V2's carbon fiber front plate stiff and clearly better than the CSL hub, though he noticed some resonance above about 12-13 Nm on a ClubSport DD that extra damping fixed.

QR2 Pro bundle or the standard QR2 bundle?

This bundle is $469.98 at Fanatec US versus $369.99 for the hub with a standard QR2 Wheel-side. Since reviewers report no functional difference, the extra cost buys billet aluminum, FIA certification and the gold look.

Can I add more buttons or clutch paddles?

Yes. A fifth button cluster can be added, the DataPort-C supports the Podium Button Module Endurance, and the paddles can be upgraded to the Podium Advanced Paddle Module with analog clutches.

What should I check when installing the QR2?

Overtake.gg notes Fanatec advises using the bolts supplied with the QR2, as older bolts can cause problems, and some wheels need a plastic washer around the pins. A safety pin and safety screw are included.
