Fanatec QR2 Wheel-Side
Diecast aluminum wheel-side quick release that upgrades compatible Fanatec wheels to QR2
Description
The Fanatec QR2 Wheel-Side is the standard, all-metal wheel half of Fanatec's QR2 quick release. It replaces the quick release on Fanatec steering wheels and hubs with an exchangeable QR, upgrading them to QR2.
Construction. Diecast aluminum with a CNC-machined, black anodized finish. The QR2 mechanical coupling was first developed for the 2022 BMW M4 GT3 race car and refined for sim racing.
How it works. A tapered cone and spring-loaded locking pins give a tight fit with no extra locking parts or adjustments, and Fanatec says the mechanism is far stronger and more secure than QR1. You attach a wheel by pushing it onto the base, without touching the sleeve, and can hot-swap wheels without restarting the sim or the base. A self-aligning design protects the electrical contacts, which carry power and data.
Requirement. The wheel base must also have a QR2 Base-Side (built in, or added with a Type-C or Type-M Base-Side). QR1 and QR2 parts are not compatible with each other.
Features & highlights
Driving style
The QR2 Wheel-Side is for Fanatec owners upgrading wheels from QR1, or adding a spare quick release, so they can swap rims quickly: GT and formula wheels for iRacing and ACC, a round wheel for rally and drift. Overtake.gg found QR2 removes the flex of QR1's rubber ring, feels slightly more detailed on small effects like road bumps, and lets you swap wheels within seconds. Simufy recommends QR2 most for medium- and high-torque direct drive users and drivers who swap wheels often.
Best for multi-wheel Fanatec setups on QR2 bases; less suited for drivers with one wheel and no QR1 play issues, or bases that cannot take a QR2 Base-Side.
Build quality
Diecast aluminum with a CNC-machined, black anodized finish, a tapered cone and spring-loaded locking pins. Overtake.gg found no functional difference from the billet QR2 Pro; the main difference is material and finish.
Software
The QR2 Wheel-Side needs no software. It passes power and data between the wheel and the base, so the wheel is still configured through the Fanatec App and firmware updates on Windows PC, and works on console through the base's platform support.
