Fanatec QR2 Base-Side (Type-C)

Base-side QR2 upgrade for the CSL DD and Gran Turismo DD Pro wheel bases

Description

The Fanatec QR2 Base-Side (Type-C) upgrades the CSL DD and Gran Turismo DD Pro wheel bases to Fanatec's motorsport-derived QR2 quick release.

Construction. Diecast aluminum with a CNC-machined finish and an anodized low-friction surface for durability and easy wheel removal. It comes with an improved clamp ring.

How it works. The tapered shape gives a tight fit; push the wheel on to attach it and hot-swap wheels without restarting the sim or base.

Requirement. The steering wheel must have a QR2 Wheel-Side, QR2 Pro Wheel-Side or QR2 Lite Wheel-Side. QR1 wheels do not fit a QR2 base. Podium bases need the Type-M instead.

Driving style

The QR2 Base-Side (Type-C) is for CSL DD and Gran Turismo DD Pro owners moving their setup to QR2, typically to swap between several wheels quickly or to remove QR1 play. That suits drivers who switch between GT, formula and rally wheels in iRacing, ACC, Gran Turismo 7 and EA SPORTS WRC. Overtake.gg notes the Type-C swap is simpler than the Podium Type-M because there is no internal wiring to reconnect.

Best for CSL DD and GT DD Pro owners with several QR2 wheels; less suited for drivers keeping QR1 wheels, since QR1 and QR2 are not cross-compatible.

Build quality

Mid-range build

Diecast aluminum with a CNC-machined finish and anodized surface, plus an improved clamp ring. It is less premium than the billet Type-M but matches the QR2 system's metal construction.

Software

The QR2 Base-Side needs no setup of its own. The CSL DD or GT DD Pro is still managed through the Fanatec App on Windows PC (firmware and settings) and keeps its PlayStation or PC compatibility.

Frequently asked questions

Which wheel bases does the QR2 Base-Side Type-C fit?

The CSL DD and the Gran Turismo DD Pro. Podium DD1, DD2 and the Podium Racing Wheel F1 use the Type-M instead, and the CSL Elite base and CSW V2.5 cannot be upgraded to QR2.

Can I still use my QR1 wheels after installing the Type-C?

No. QR1 and QR2 are not compatible, so each wheel needs a QR2, QR2 Pro or QR2 Lite Wheel-Side. Overtake.gg describes the upgrade as effectively all or nothing.

How hard is it to install the Type-C base-side?

You loosen the clamp, pull out the old quick release and fit the QR2 with the included clamp ring. Overtake.gg found the Type-C swap simpler than the Podium Type-M, which requires reconnecting wires.

Type-C vs Type-M: what is the difference?

The Type-C is diecast aluminum with an anodized surface for CSL DD and GT DD Pro. The Type-M is CNC-machined billet aluminum with a nickel coating for Podium bases. They are not interchangeable between base families.

Does QR2 improve force feedback on a CSL DD?

Overtake.gg found QR2 removes QR1 flex and feels slightly more detailed on small effects. Simufy notes the benefit is largest on medium- and high-torque setups and with frequent wheel swaps.

How much does the Type-C cost?

$44.99 in the US and €44.95 in the EU, the cheapest QR2 part. Budget for QR2 wheel-sides on each wheel as well.

Do I need a firmware update after installing it?

The base-side itself has no settings. Keep the CSL DD or GT DD Pro firmware current through the Fanatec App on PC as usual.
