Fanatec Podium Steering Wheel R300

300 mm leather all-rounder on the Podium Hub with Advanced Paddle Module

Description

The Fanatec Podium Steering Wheel R300 is a high-end, multi-purpose wheel that combines the Podium Wheel Rim R300, the Podium Hub, the Podium Advanced Paddle Module and two ClubSport Button Cluster Packs. It weighs about 1776 g.

Rim. The 300 mm rim is brushed and anodized aluminum covered in premium smooth leather with gold stitching, with an extra set of gold anodized aluminum bolts included. Fanatec pitches its size as a good all-rounder for many vehicle types.

Podium Advanced Paddle Module. Four magnetic paddles with neodymium magnets and two analog Hall-sensor paddles with real carbon fiber plates. The analog paddles support bite-point dual clutch, clutch/handbrake, brake/throttle and mappable axis modes.

Podium Hub and controls. Gold-anodized aluminum monocoque with connectors for the paddle module, two button clusters and a DataPort-C port for optional button modules. The two included 3-button clusters slide along the hub rails to suit the rim. The hub accepts 6 x 70 mm and 3 x 50 mm bolt-pattern rims. In this configuration there is no display and no Tuning Menu button; tuning is done through the Fanatec software on PC, or by adding an optional button module.

Compatibility. Requires a Fanatec wheel base (not included): Podium DD1/DD2, ClubSport V2/V2.5, CSL Elite bases, CSL DD and Gran Turismo DD Pro. QR2 Wheel-Side included, packaged separately. Works on Windows PC and on PlayStation with a PlayStation-licensed base. Not compatible with Xbox.

Driving style

The Podium R300 is the high-end, multi-purpose round wheel: the Podium Wheel Rim R300 in smooth leather, the Podium Hub, the Podium Advanced Paddle Module with four magnetic and two analog paddles, and a ClubSport Button Cluster Pack, all in anodised aluminium, leather and real carbon fibre at 1776 g. The analog paddles can work as a dual clutch or handbrake, making it a serious all-rounder for GT, touring, rally and multi-class racing in iRacing, Assetto Corsa and Gran Turismo-style events. Best for GT, touring and all-rounders who want analog paddles; less suited for formula cars that expect a small flat rim.

Build quality

Premium build

The wheel is a modular Podium assembly of premium automotive-grade materials: anodised aluminium structure, smooth leather rim wrap, real carbon fibre elements and neodymium magnets with hall sensors in the analog paddles. The Podium Advanced Paddle Module adds four magnetic shift paddles plus two analog paddles for clutch or handbrake duties, and the Podium Hub keeps everything firmware-updatable. At 1776 g it feels substantial and precisely built, with every contact surface in metal, leather or carbon.

Software

The Podium R300 has no driver of its own: firmware, Tuning Menu and force feedback settings run through the Fanatec wheel base it mounts to, configured in the Fanatec App for Windows PC, which also delivers firmware updates for the base and the wheel modules. On console, compatibility follows the base: pair it with a PlayStation-licensed base for PS4 and PS5, while PC works with any Fanatec base. The Podium Advanced Paddle Module's analog axes are configurable as clutch, handbrake or mappable inputs through the Fanatec App and Tuning Menu. Telemetry and inputs reach the wheel through the Fanatec SDK in supported games, FanaLab programs LED behaviour, and SimHub can drive displays with custom dashboards.

Frequently asked questions

Which wheel bases and consoles does the Podium Steering Wheel R300 work with?

It needs a Fanatec wheel base. Fanatec lists Podium DD1/DD2, ClubSport V2/V2.5, CSL Elite bases, CSL DD and Gran Turismo DD Pro. On the ClubSport V2 and CSL Elite / V1.1 bases the Tuning Menu cannot be controlled without an optional button module. It works on PC and on PlayStation with a licensed base, and is not compatible with Xbox.

Does it have a display or Tuning Menu button?

No. In this configuration the Podium R300 has two 3-button clusters but no display and no Tuning Menu button; Fanatec says tuning features are accessed via its PC software. The Podium Hub has a DataPort-C connector for an optional button module, but Fanatec notes tight clearance between the R300 rim and the Podium Button Module Endurance.

How do the Advanced Paddle Module shifters feel?

The simracing-pc.de review of the same Podium Advanced Paddle Module found the magnetic shifters give a much more pleasant shift feel than Fanatec's earlier paddles and considered the 3 mm carbon plates sufficient, though some users want 5 mm. The two analog Hall paddles can run as dual clutch, clutch/handbrake, brake/throttle or free axes.

Are there known issues with the Advanced Paddle Module?

A GTPlanet thread reports that the two small upper paddles of the Podium Advanced Paddle Module did not work on a ClubSport DD+ base when fitted to the ClubSport Universal Hub V2 for Xbox, while they did work on the Podium Hub. A Fanatec technician reportedly called it a known DD+ bug under investigation. The R300 ships with the Podium Hub, the configuration users reported as working.

How does the Podium R300 compare with the Podium 911 GT3 R?

Both use the Podium Hub and Podium Advanced Paddle Module. The 911 GT3 R adds the Podium Button Module Endurance with a 2.7-inch OLED, analog stick and LEDs, and costs $774.99 on Fanatec US versus $656.96 for the R300. The R300 has a round 300 mm leather rim with only six buttons and no display.

Is the Podium R300 good value?

At $656.96 on Fanatec US it mainly buys the Podium Hub and Advanced Paddle Module in a premium package. The simracing-pc.de review noted that individual Podium modules are expensive, with the paddle module alone around 180 EUR at the time. Buyers who need many buttons or a display will have to add a button module.

What warranty does Fanatec offer on this wheel?

Since June 3, 2025, Fanatec offers a three-year limited warranty on Fanatec-branded products bought from Fanatec or authorized retailers, plus a 30-day return window. Items in a bundle are covered individually, and wear, misuse or unauthorized modifications are excluded.

Can I mount third-party rims on the Podium Hub?

Yes. Fanatec says the Podium Hub has mounting holes for 6 x 70 mm and 3 x 50 mm bolt-pattern rims, and the included button clusters slide along the hub rails to suit rims of different shapes and sizes. Third-party steering wheels with their own electronics can be run on PC through an independent data connection.
