Fanatec ClubSport Formula V3

290 mm formula wheel with 2.7" OLED and magnetic paddles

Description

The Fanatec ClubSport Formula V3 is the third generation of Fanatec's formula-style steering wheel. It grows from 270 mm to 290 mm in diameter, uses a 5 mm carbon-fiber front plate on a redesigned substructure, and weighs about 1350 g including the preinstalled QR2 Wheel-Side.

Controls and inputs. The layout includes 11 concave face buttons, two 7-way FunkySwitches (directional stick, push button and rotary dial), two 2-way momentary switches, three 12-way rotary switches (configurable as position or rotation input) and two thumb-reachable rotary dials with push function and firmer detents than the V2.5.

Display and LEDs. A 2.7" white OLED gives access to the Tuning Menu and Intelligent Telemetry Mode (five telemetry layouts where the game supports it). Nine RGB RevLEDs and six RGB FlagLEDs sit higher than on the V2.5, closer to the driver's line of sight, and are configurable in the Fanatec App.

Paddles and grips. The ClubSport Magnetic Paddle Module comes preinstalled, with CNC-machined black anodized aluminum shifters. There are no clutch paddles out of the box; the wheel can be upgraded with the Podium Advanced Paddle Module. The perforated leather grips are user-replaceable.

Compatibility. Works on Windows PC with compatible Fanatec bases (CSL DD, Gran Turismo DD Pro, ClubSport DD, ClubSport DD+, Podium DD1/DD2 and Podium DD 2026), and on PlayStation only when connected to a PlayStation-licensed Fanatec base. It is not compatible with Xbox. QR2 Wheel-Side is preinstalled and the wheel is also compatible with QR1.

Driving style

The ClubSport Formula V3 shines in formula and open-wheel racing: the 290 mm rim and magnetic paddles suit F1 25, iRacing Formula and Formula/Formula Renault ladders in Assetto Corsa, where precise inputs and the 2.7" telemetry OLED matter. The 11 buttons and rotary switches also make it a strong GT3 endurance choice for ACC and iRacing IMSA, where pit menus and black-box controls need to be reachable mid-stint. Its shape and layout are a poor match for rally, drifting or truck sims, and without an Xbox-compatible base it is out of reach for console Xbox drivers.

It fits competitive league racers and serious club competitors already invested in the Fanatec ecosystem on PC or PlayStation, who want a premium formula rim without stepping up to Podium pricing. Immersive casual drivers who occasionally do F1 hotlaps will also enjoy it, though the investment only makes sense if the 8+ Nm base recommendations are met. Best for competitive F1 and GT racing on PC/PlayStation Fanatec setups; less suited for Xbox, rally or drift drivers.

Build quality

Mid-range build

CNC-machined black anodized aluminum paddle shifters and a carbon-fiber-reinforced structure sit above the plastic-shelled competition, with perforated leather grips carried over from the V2.5. The magnetic shifters and QR2 interface feel solid with no play, but the rear housing and grips are where costs were saved - some owners report grip creak under pressure. Overall it is well above entry-level peripherals and matches typical mid-range consumer quality, a step below full-aluminum flagship wheels.

Software

As a steering wheel the ClubSport Formula V3 needs no driver of its own — all firmware and tuning runs through the wheel base it mounts to, configured in the Fanatec App (Windows), which handles base firmware, force feedback tuning and telemetry setup. On PlayStation the button layout is handled by the licensed console integration when paired with a PlayStation-licensed base; on PC the wheel's buttons, OLED display and RevStripe LEDs work through the full Fanatec SDK.

Once the base driver is installed, community tools such as SimHub can drive the wheel's OLED display and telemetry LEDs with custom dashboards, and Crew Chief adds spotter audio. Keep base firmware current via the Fanatec App to pick up FullForce support and paddle-module refinements.

Frequently asked questions

Which wheel bases and platforms is the ClubSport Formula V3 compatible with?

Fanatec lists the CSL DD, Gran Turismo DD Pro, ClubSport DD, ClubSport DD+, Podium DD1, DD1 PS4, DD2 and Podium DD (2026). It works on Windows PC and on PlayStation only when connected to a PlayStation-licensed Fanatec base. It is not compatible with Xbox.

Does the ClubSport Formula V3 have clutch paddles?

No. It ships with the ClubSport Magnetic Paddle Module (two magnetic aluminum shifters) and no clutch paddles, which reviewers flag as a notable omission. It can be upgraded with the Podium Advanced Paddle Module, which adds dual analog paddles.

How do the paddles and controls feel in use?

Reviewers describe the magnetic paddles as sturdy but with relatively heavy actuation. The new thumb rotaries have more resistance and clearer detents, which reduces accidental changes, and the concave buttons are seen as an improvement. Users moving from the V2.5 report the 290 mm size gives more control and less wrist strain.

Is the Formula V3 worth upgrading to from the Formula V2.5?

Fanatec's comparison lists a larger 290 mm diameter (vs 270 mm), a 2.7" OLED (vs 1"), a second FunkySwitch instead of the analog joystick, a 12-way central rotary and higher RevLEDs. The grips and magnetic paddles carry over. Reviewers call it a refinement rather than a redesign, so V2.5 owners may not need it unless they value the bigger wheel and screen.

Are there any known build or creaking issues?

Reviewers did not report hardware defects. On GTPlanet, one user returned a unit due to plastic creaking, while another found the noise stopped once the wheel was pushed fully onto the base, so it appears tied to individual units or seating rather than a confirmed design flaw. Wearing gloves is suggested to keep the leather grips clean.

Does Intelligent Telemetry Mode work in every game?

ITM works where the game supports it. Reviewers found it works well on PC in most major titles but shows only basic data on PS5. Forum users have reported inconsistent OLED/LED behavior in some titles and needing a software update before the wheel was recognized, so keep firmware and drivers current.

Can I configure the wheel without a PC?

Yes. Force feedback, steering sensitivity, FullForce (base-dependent) and the multi-position switch mode can be set in the Fanatec App on Windows or directly from the wheel's Tuning Menu on the 2.7" OLED. LED colors and display behavior are user-defined through the Fanatec App.

How much does the ClubSport Formula V3 cost and is it good value?

It retails at $349.99 / €349.95 directly from Fanatec. Reviewers rate it as solid value for a formula wheel if you already own a Fanatec base, noting the omission of clutch paddles at this price.

Does the Formula V3 have rumble motors?

No. According to DG EDGE's review, rumble motors were removed and Fanatec relies on its FullForce system (on compatible bases) for additional feedback effects, which the reviewer found works well.
