Fanatec ClubSport Wheel Rim GT3

318 mm GT3 rim with rubber grips and button cluster bracket for ClubSport Universal Hub

Description

The Fanatec ClubSport Wheel Rim GT3 is engineered for the ClubSport Universal Hub. An included reinforcement bracket repositions the hub's button clusters for a GT3-style ergonomic layout.

Rim. The 318 mm rim is CNC-machined, black anodized aluminum with overmolded rubber grips of 50 Shore A hardness, similar to the Podium Steering Wheel BMW M4 GT3, shaped for comfort in long races. It weighs 700 g including the bracket.

Bracket. The bracket fits between the ClubSport Universal Hub and the rim, giving the button clusters a rigid mount so they feel like part of the rim. The FunkySwitch can be placed on the left or right. Ten precision-cut printable sticker sheets let you design a custom faceplate.

Compatibility. ClubSport Universal Hub V1, for Xbox, V2 and V2 for Xbox; Podium Hub (two button clusters); Podium Button Module Rally. The Podium Advanced Paddle Module cannot be used on a ClubSport Universal Hub with the bracket installed, because the cluster cables interfere with the paddles. The rim has no electronics.

Driving style

The GT3 rim brings a modern GT3 shape to the ClubSport Universal Hub. Its 318 mm size and rubber grips suit GT3 and GT4 racing in Assetto Corsa Competizione, iRacing, Le Mans Ultimate and Gran Turismo 7, where reviewers say it encourages calm, smooth inputs over long stints. With the hub's buttons moved onto the rim, pit and black-box controls stay within thumb reach.

It fits ClubSport Universal Hub owners who want a GT3-style wheel without buying a Podium wheel. Best for GT3, GT4 and endurance racing; less suited for drifting and rally, and not compatible with CSL Universal Hubs.

Build quality

Mid-range build

The rim is CNC-machined, black anodized aluminum with overmolded 50 Shore A rubber grips that reviewers describe as sturdy and grippy, expected to last longer than thin coatings. A reinforced bracket gives the relocated button clusters a rigid mount. The overall feel depends on the ClubSport hub's plastic button caps, which reviewers say feel cheaper than the rim.

Software

The ClubSport Wheel Rim GT3 has no electronics and needs no software. Buttons, the FunkySwitch, paddles and console licensing come from the ClubSport Universal Hub or Podium Hub and the wheel base, set up in the Fanatec App on Windows PC.

Platform support follows the hub: the ClubSport Universal Hub V2 for Xbox enables Xbox, and PlayStation needs a PlayStation-licensed base. Fanatec provides a sticker-sheet template and sample graphics for custom faceplates.

Frequently asked questions

Which hubs does the ClubSport Wheel Rim GT3 work with?

Fanatec lists the ClubSport Universal Hub V1, for Xbox, V2 and V2 for Xbox, the Podium Hub (with two button clusters) and the Podium Button Module Rally. CSL Universal Hubs are not on the list.

Can I use the Podium Advanced Paddle Module with this rim?

Not on a ClubSport Universal Hub with the button cluster bracket installed. Fanatec states the cluster cables interfere with the Podium Advanced Paddle Module.

How long does installation take?

You move the hub's button clusters onto the included bracket. A SimRacingCockpit reviewer needed about 45 minutes as an experienced builder and suggests about an hour for first-timers, noting the ribbon cables are fiddly. He also warns to check bolt length so longer bolts don't press into the hub's LED display.

How do the rubber grips feel?

Reviewers report excellent grip with dry hands and no slipping during fast corrections, and found them comfortable over 40-minute stints. SimRacingHub notes they look less premium than leather in photos but feel better than expected.

Will the rubber grips wear out like suede?

Fanatec uses overmolded 50 Shore A rubber. A SimRacingCockpit reviewer expects it to last longer than thin soft-touch coatings that wear smooth. Unlike suede, it does not need gloves for protection.

ClubSport Wheel Rim GT3 or GT3 Endurance?

Both share the 318 mm shape and rubber grips. The GT3 includes a bracket to move the ClubSport Universal Hub's button clusters. The GT3 Endurance has holes machined to fit the Podium Button Module Endurance and ships with longer bolts for it.

Is it worth it versus the complete ClubSport Steering Wheel GT3?

The rim costs $99.99 at Fanatec US, the cheapest Fanatec rim. If you already own a ClubSport Universal Hub V2 it is a low-cost upgrade. SimRacingHub calls it the strongest part of the bundle but says the hub limits the package.

Can I customize the faceplate?

Yes. Ten blank, precision-cut sticker sheets and a squeegee are included, and Fanatec provides a template and sample graphics in the product's documentation section.

Is rim wear covered by warranty?

Fanatec notes that extra wear on rim materials from gloves is not covered under warranty. Defects in materials are handled through Fanatec support.
