Fanatec ClubSport Steering Wheel Drift V2

Entry-level direct drive

Description

The Fanatec ClubSport Steering Wheel Drift V2 is a bundle of the ClubSport Wheel Rim Drift and the ClubSport Universal Hub V2. The rim has a deep dish and a fully round 320 mm shape, made in brushed, anodized aluminum and covered in smooth genuine leather. The rim alone weighs 929 g.

Who it suits. Fanatec designed it for drifting and rally driving, where the round shape and dish let you shuffle and spin the wheel quickly during big countersteer corrections.

Paddles. The preinstalled ClubSport Magnetic Paddle Module uses 3 mm black anodized aluminum paddle plates in a CNC-machined aluminum cage with neodymium magnets. Small and large plates plus spacers are included to suit different rim sizes and distances. There are no clutch paddles out of the box; the module can be upgraded to the Podium Advanced Paddle Module.

Controls and display. The hub has 16 integrated buttons on top and four adjustable, detachable button clusters with three buttons each (a fifth cluster can be added), a 7-way FunkySwitch (directional, push and rotary encoder) and a Tuning Menu button. A three-digit LED display shows Tuning Menu settings and telemetry in supported games and can be installed upright or flat. Fanatec notes that buttons and paddles are harder to reach on larger, dished rims like this one.

Modularity. The Universal Hub V2 accepts all Fanatec rims and third-party rims with a 6 x 70 mm or 3 x 50 mm bolt pattern (for example Sparco, MOMO or OMP). A DataPort-C connector supports the Podium Button Module Endurance (sold separately; it does not fit the Drift rim). The electronics are firmware-updatable.

Compatibility. Requires a Fanatec wheel base (not included). Fanatec lists Podium DD1, Podium DD2, ClubSport V2/V2.5, CSL Elite bases, CSL DD and Gran Turismo DD Pro. Works on Windows PC and on PlayStation with a PlayStation-licensed base, where functionality may be limited by the console and the game. It is not compatible with Xbox (Fanatec sells a separate Drift V2 for Xbox). The QR2 Wheel-Side is included, packaged separately.

Driving style

Drift V2 is a 320 mm leather-wrapped aluminium rim tuned for sliding: the round, comfortably sized shape gives you the leverage and hand-over-hand freedom that counter-steering demands, and the genuine smooth leather grips just as well with gloves as without. The ClubSport Universal Hub adds 16 buttons, a FunkySwitch and magnetic paddles for handbrake pulls, clutch kicks and gear taps in Assetto Corsa Drift, CarX, Forza Horizon and rally titles. Best for drifting, rally and simcade sliding; less suited for formula cars and GT3 sprints that expect a small flat rim with displays.

Build quality

Mid-range build

The rim is aluminium with a diameter of 32 cm wrapped in genuine smooth leather, weighing 929 g, so the structure is metal all the way to the grip. It mounts to the aluminium, firmware-updatable ClubSport Universal Hub V2 with its CNC-machined aluminium magnetic paddle cage, 3 mm anodised paddle plates and neodymium magnets. The hub takes any third-party rim with a standard bolt pattern, and polymer appears only in the removable button clusters and FunkySwitch, keeping the parts you touch feeling solid.

Software

The Drift V2 has no driver of its own: firmware, Tuning Menu and force feedback settings run through the Fanatec wheel base it mounts to, configured in the Fanatec App for Windows PC, which also updates the base and the firmware-updatable Universal Hub. On console, compatibility follows the base: pair it with a PlayStation-licensed base for PS4 and PS5 button layouts, while PC works with any Fanatec base; it is not Xbox-licensed, so Xbox requires one of the Xbox wheels instead. Inputs reach games through the Fanatec SDK, and SimHub can push custom telemetry to compatible displays.

Frequently asked questions

Which wheel bases and consoles does the ClubSport Steering Wheel Drift V2 work with?

It needs a Fanatec wheel base. Fanatec lists Podium DD1/DD2, ClubSport V2/V2.5, CSL Elite bases, CSL DD and Gran Turismo DD Pro. It works on Windows PC and on PlayStation with a PlayStation-licensed base (functionality can be limited by the game). It is not Xbox compatible; Fanatec sells a separate Drift V2 for Xbox with the Xbox-licensed hub.

Can I mount a different rim on the Universal Hub V2 later?

Yes. The ClubSport Universal Hub V2 accepts all Fanatec wheel rims and third-party rims with a 6 x 70 mm or 3 x 50 mm bolt pattern, such as Sparco, MOMO or OMP. Reviewers note that the hub is a good way to reuse one set of paddles and buttons across several rims, but build quality above the hub then depends on the rim you bolt on.

Does it have clutch paddles, and how do the shifters feel?

No. The preinstalled ClubSport Magnetic Paddle Module has two magnetic shifters (3 mm aluminum plates, CNC aluminum cage, neodymium magnets) but no clutch paddles. Reviews describe a short, consistent, positive click without contact wear. For dual analog clutch paddles you can upgrade to the Podium Advanced Paddle Module, sold separately.

Are the buttons easy to reach on the deep-dish Drift rim?

Fanatec itself warns that buttons and paddle shifters are not easily reached with larger, dished wheel rims, and the Drift rim has a pronounced dish. The button clusters can be repositioned or removed, and spacers are included to adjust paddle distance, which helps but does not fully remove the reach issue.

Do all the hub buttons work in Gran Turismo 7 on PS5?

Fanatec only guarantees full functionality on PC; on PlayStation it depends on the console and the game. On the Fanatec forum, a GT7 user with a DD Pro reported that the FunkySwitch could not be configured in-game and its push acts as the PS button, while Fanatec staff pointed out the top buttons are dedicated inputs. Expect fewer mappable functions on PS5 than on PC.

How is it different from the CSL Steering Wheel Round 1 V2 or the Xbox version?

The ClubSport Universal Hub V2 uses removable button clusters and a CNC aluminum magnetic paddle module, while the cheaper CSL Universal Hub V2 uses an expanding slider with fixed button islands. The Xbox version of the ClubSport hub adds a Microsoft chip for Xbox support; forum users note Xbox limits the number of inputs. The PC/PS version is the one to buy if you never plan to use Xbox.

What warranty does Fanatec offer on this wheel?

Since June 3, 2025, Fanatec offers a three-year limited warranty on Fanatec-branded products bought from Fanatec or authorized retailers, plus a 30-day return window. Items in a bundle are covered individually, and wear, misuse or unauthorized modifications are excluded.

Is the bundle better value than buying the hub and rim separately?

Fanatec US lists the bundle at $514.99 (regular $619.97). The ClubSport Universal Hub V2 + QR2 alone sells for $369.99, so the bundle makes sense if you want this specific rim. Reviewers suggest buying the hub alone only if you already own a rim or want a specific third-party one.

How do I adjust force feedback and update the firmware?

Press the Tuning button and use the FunkySwitch to change force feedback and other settings on the 3-digit display, without leaving the game. The hub electronics are firmware-updatable through the Fanatec driver on PC; Fanatec staff confirmed on the forum that the V2 hubs use updatable firmware.
