Fanatec ClubSport Steering Wheel Classic 2 V2

350 mm thin round aluminum and leather wheel on the ClubSport Universal Hub V2

Description

The Fanatec ClubSport Steering Wheel Classic 2 V2 is a modular bundle that pairs the ClubSport Wheel Rim Classic 2 with the ClubSport Universal Hub V2. The rim is a thin, large-diameter 350 mm three-spoke design in polished, anodized silver aluminum, wrapped in smooth genuine leather, with a black "F" signet on the silver hub cover. The rim alone weighs 840 g.

Who it suits. Fanatec designed it for vintage road cars and historic racing cars, and its large round shape also suits oval and stock car racing. At 350 mm, it matches the diameter of the discontinued Podium Steering Wheel NASCAR, making it the closest current Fanatec alternative.

Paddles. The preinstalled ClubSport Magnetic Paddle Module uses 3 mm black anodized aluminum paddle plates in a CNC-machined aluminum cage with neodymium magnets. Small and large plates and spacers are included to suit the rim diameter. There are no clutch paddles out of the box; the hub can be upgraded with the Podium Advanced Paddle Module.

Controls and display. The hub has 16 buttons, including four adjustable, detachable clusters of three buttons each (a fifth cluster can be added), a 7-way FunkySwitch (directional, push and rotary encoder) and a Tuning Menu button for force feedback and hardware settings. A three-digit LED display shows Tuning Menu settings and telemetry in supported games and can be mounted upright or flat. Paddles, clusters and the FunkySwitch can be removed for a clean, classic look.

Modularity. The Universal Hub V2 accepts all Fanatec rims and third-party rims with a 6 x 70 mm or 3 x 50 mm bolt pattern (for example Sparco, MOMO or OMP). A DataPort-C connector supports the Podium Button Module Endurance (sold separately; it does not fit the Classic 2 rim). The electronics are firmware-updatable.

Compatibility. Requires a Fanatec wheel base (not included). Fanatec lists Podium DD1, Podium DD2, ClubSport V2/V2.5, CSL Elite bases, CSL DD and Gran Turismo DD Pro. Works on Windows PC and on PlayStation with a PlayStation-licensed base, where functionality may be limited by the console and the game. It is not compatible with Xbox. The QR2 Wheel-Side is included, packaged separately.

Driving style

Classic 2 V2 is a large 350 mm three-spoke wheel with a polished anodised silver finish and genuine smooth leather, made for vintage and grand-touring cars where a slow, heavy steering feel is part of the charm. The wide diameter smooths out inputs the way old steering racks do, the black F signet and silver hub cover look right behind a classic dashboard, and the magnetic paddles still give a precise shift in historic racing mods, Assetto Corsa and iRacing. Best for vintage cars, relaxed GT cruising and historic racing; less suited for formula cars, drifting or any discipline that rewards a small, fast rim.

Build quality

Mid-range build

The 350 mm rim is real aluminium, polished and anodised silver, covered in genuine smooth leather and weighing 840 g, with a black F signet on the metal hub cover for an authentic vintage look. It sits on the aluminium ClubSport Universal Hub V2, firmware-updatable and compatible with third-party 70 mm and 50 mm bolt-pattern rims. The magnetic paddle module uses a CNC-machined aluminium cage with 3 mm anodised plates; the removable button clusters and FunkySwitch are the only polymer parts in the assembly.

Software

The Classic 2 V2 has no driver of its own: firmware, Tuning Menu and force feedback settings run through the Fanatec wheel base it mounts to, configured in the Fanatec App for Windows PC, which also updates the base and the firmware-updatable Universal Hub. On console, compatibility follows the base: pair it with a PlayStation-licensed base for PS4 and PS5 button layouts, while PC works with any Fanatec base; it is not Xbox-licensed, so Xbox requires one of the Xbox wheels instead. Inputs reach games through the Fanatec SDK, and SimHub can push custom telemetry to compatible displays.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Fanatec ClubSport Steering Wheel Classic 2 V2 a replacement for the Podium Steering Wheel NASCAR?

Fanatec no longer lists the Podium Steering Wheel NASCAR. The Classic 2 V2 is the closest current option: both are 350 mm, fully round aluminum rims. The differences: the NASCAR rim had Alcantara grips on a Podium Hub (QR1), with no buttons or paddles included. The Classic 2 uses smooth leather and ships on the Universal Hub V2 with magnetic paddles, button clusters, a FunkySwitch and a QR2.

Which Fanatec wheel bases work with the ClubSport Steering Wheel Classic 2 V2?

Fanatec lists Podium DD1, Podium DD2, Podium DD1 PS4, ClubSport Wheel Base V2/V2.5, CSL Elite (including V1.1 and the PS4-licensed Elite Wheel Base+), CSL DD and Gran Turismo DD Pro. No base is included. The QR2 Wheel-Side comes in the box, packaged separately.

Does the Classic 2 V2 work on Xbox or PlayStation?

Fanatec lists it as not compatible with Xbox. On PlayStation it works through a PlayStation-licensed Fanatec base, but Fanatec notes that console functionality may be limited and that full functionality is only guaranteed on Windows PC, depending on the game.

Is a 350 mm rim too large for a low-torque wheel base?

A larger rim adds leverage, so the same force feels lighter at the grip. On r/Fanatec, several users suggest staying at around 300 mm or smaller on 5-8 Nm bases to keep force feedback detail, while large round rims are more common on stronger direct drive bases. This is a preference, not a hard limit.

What kind of racing is the Classic 2 V2 best for?

Fanatec positions it for vintage road cars and historic racing cars. On the Fanatec forum, users describe the Classic 2 as properly round, good for rally and well sized for vintage cars, and note that many sim racers keep one round wheel for rally, dirt and oval racing alongside a GT or formula wheel.

How does the Classic 2 V2 compare with the ClubSport Steering Wheel R330 V2?

Both are modular bundles on the same Universal Hub V2, at the same US price. The Classic 2 has a thinner 350 mm polished aluminum rim (840 g) aimed at vintage and historic cars. The R330 has a 330 mm brushed aluminum rim (860 g) with neon stitching, aimed at general-purpose round-wheel use. The smaller R330 keeps paddles and buttons slightly closer to the rim.

Does the leather on the Classic 2 hold up better than Alcantara?

The Classic 2 uses smooth genuine leather. On the Fanatec forum, users choosing round rims point out that leather resists wear better than Alcantara. Leather can still wear with heavy use, so gloves or regular cleaning help.

Can I use the Universal Hub V2 from this bundle with other rims?

Yes. Fanatec states the hub works with all Fanatec rims and with third-party rims that use a 6 x 70 mm or 3 x 50 mm bolt pattern, such as Sparco, MOMO or OMP. On r/Fanatec, a Universal Hub V2 with a third-party round rim is one of the most common suggestions for a round-wheel setup.

How do I update the firmware and change settings?

Install the latest Fanatec driver, connect the wheel base to a PC by USB in PC mode and open the Fanatec Control Panel or app to update the hub firmware. Force feedback and hardware settings can also be changed on the wheel through the Tuning Menu shown on the LED display.

Is the bundle cheaper than buying the Classic 2 rim and hub separately?

In the US store the bundle sells for $514.99 against a combined list price of $609.97 for its parts. In the EU store it is €429.95 against €559.85. Forum users note that hub, rim and button bundles usually save $50-100 or more over separate purchases, so check what is included before buying.

Who handles the warranty for the ClubSport Steering Wheel Classic 2 V2?

The Universal Hub V2 manual states that the warranty is provided by CORSAIR MEMORY, Inc. and refers to the terms and conditions on fanatec.com.
