Fanatec Podium Steering Wheel Porsche 911 GT3 R (Suede)

Full-scale Porsche 991 GT3 R replica with Button Module Endurance and Advanced Paddle Module

Description

The Fanatec Podium Steering Wheel Porsche 911 GT3 R (Suede) combines four Podium-series components into a full-scale replica of the Porsche 991 GT3 R wheel: the Podium Wheel Rim Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, the Podium Button Module Endurance, the Podium Advanced Paddle Module and the Podium Hub.

Rim. Built from original Porsche CAD data, the 320 mm brushed and anodized aluminum rim is covered in genuine suede leather and carries a 3D metal Porsche badge. Fanatec highly recommends gloves with suede rims.

Podium Button Module Endurance. Real carbon fiber front plate with internal metal reinforcement and a rubber-coated glass-fiber backplate. Inputs: 10 buttons, two 2-way toggle switches, two 12-way multi-position switches with endless encoder mode, a 7-way FunkySwitch and a 2-axis analog stick. Outputs: nine RGB RevLEDs, six RGB FlagLEDs and a 2.7" 256x64 OLED with Tuning Menu and Intelligent Telemetry Mode (ITM, five switchable telemetry layouts).

Podium Advanced Paddle Module. Four magnetic paddles with neodymium magnets and two analog Hall-sensor paddles, real carbon fiber plates and a CNC-machined aluminum cage. The analog paddles support bite-point dual clutch, clutch/handbrake, brake/throttle and mappable axis modes, with bite point shown on the OLED.

Podium Hub. Gold-anodized aluminum monocoque with a space-frame design and DataPort-C connector. QR2 Wheel-Side included, packaged separately.

Compatibility. Requires a Fanatec wheel base (not included): Podium DD1/DD2, ClubSport V2.5, CSL DD, Gran Turismo DD Pro, CSL Elite+ and CSL Elite V1.1. Works on Windows PC and on PlayStation with a PlayStation-licensed base (functionality may be limited by the console and game). Not compatible with Xbox.

Driving style

This is the full-scale replica of the Porsche 991 GT3 R wheel in premium suede: a 320 mm aluminium Podium rim with a detailed metal Porsche badge, mounted on the Podium Button Module Endurance with its carbon fibre front plate, 10 buttons, toggles, 12-way switches and FunkySwitch. Suede is the competition choice, locking gloved hands in place through long GT3 stints in iRacing, Assetto Corsa Competizione and Porsche Cup racing. Best for GT3 and Porsche Cup racing with gloves; less suited for rally, bare-hand casual use and formula cars.

Build quality

Premium build

Every component is Podium grade: the wheel rim is aluminium at 320 mm wearing premium suede leather with a detailed metal Porsche badge, and the Podium Button Module Endurance beneath it has a real carbon fibre front plate, internal metal reinforcement and a rubber-coated glass fibre backplate, a full-scale replica of a class-leading endurance GT3 wheel. The modular Podium construction is serviceable and rigid, with finishes tight enough that the seams disappear in the hand.

Software

The Podium Porsche 911 GT3 R Suede has no driver of its own: firmware, Tuning Menu and force feedback settings run through the Fanatec wheel base it mounts to, configured in the Fanatec App for Windows PC, which also delivers firmware updates for the base and the wheel modules. On console, compatibility follows the base: pair it with a PlayStation-licensed base for PS4 and PS5, while PC works with any Fanatec base. Its switches and encoders expose car functions and telemetry through the Fanatec SDK in supported titles. Telemetry and inputs reach the wheel through the Fanatec SDK in supported games, FanaLab programs LED behaviour, and SimHub can drive displays with custom dashboards.

Frequently asked questions

Which wheel bases and consoles does the Podium Steering Wheel Porsche 911 GT3 R work with?

It needs a Fanatec wheel base. Fanatec lists Podium DD1/DD2, ClubSport V2.5, CSL DD, Gran Turismo DD Pro, CSL Elite+ and CSL Elite V1.1. It works on Windows PC and on PlayStation with a PlayStation-licensed base, where functionality can be limited by the console and game. It is not compatible with Xbox.

Does the Podium Button Module Endurance work on older bases like the ClubSport V2 or V1.5?

At launch the Button Module Endurance only worked with Podium direct drive bases, with ClubSport V2.5 support added later by firmware. Fanatec's current list includes the CSW V2.5, CSL DD, GT DD Pro and CSL Elite bases, but not the ClubSport V2 or V1.5. The simracing-pc.de review also notes that a CSW V1.5 is not sufficient for this set.

How do the Podium Advanced Paddle Module shifters feel?

The simracing-pc.de review found the magnetic shifters give a much more pleasant shift feel than Fanatec's earlier standard paddles. It considered the 3 mm carbon plates sufficient, while noting some users would prefer 5 mm. The two analog Hall paddles were described as accurate and can run as a dual clutch with a 0-99% bite point, clutch/handbrake, brake/throttle or free axes.

Are there known issues with the Button Module Endurance display?

On the Fanatec forum, a user reported that after swapping from another wheel to the Porsche GT3 Cup rim, the BME's ITM and LEDs went dark and the display only showed the Podium Hub until Active Devices was refreshed in FanaLab. Updating driver, firmware and FanaLab did not fix it, and no official solution was posted in that thread.

Do I need gloves for the suede version?

Fanatec highly recommends gloves with this product because of the suede leather. Fanatec also notes that gloves can add wear to rim materials and that this extra wear is not covered by warranty. For cleaning, it advises a microfiber cloth with lukewarm water and no chemical cleaners. If you prefer bare hands, Fanatec sells the same wheel with a smooth leather rim.

How does it compare with premium full-metal wheels from other brands?

The simracing-pc.de reviewer found the button plate (carbon front, rubber-coated glass-fiber back) does not quite reach the feel of full metal and carbon wheels from premium rivals, but costs less. Its strengths were the OLED, analog axes, magnetic paddles and modularity, since each of the four components can be bought or upgraded separately.

Is the Podium 911 GT3 R worth the price?

Fanatec US lists the bundle at $774.99 against a combined component price of $879.96. The simracing-pc.de review rated the price as high within Fanatec's range but justified, calling the set a recommendation especially for Porsche fans, with the main cost drivers being the separately sold Podium modules.

What warranty does Fanatec offer on this wheel?

Since June 3, 2025, Fanatec offers a three-year limited warranty on Fanatec-branded products bought from Fanatec or authorized retailers, plus a 30-day return window. Items in a bundle are covered individually, and wear, misuse or unauthorized modifications are excluded.

What can I customize on the OLED and LEDs?

The 2.7-inch OLED shows the Tuning Menu for force feedback settings and the clutch bite point, and Intelligent Telemetry Mode switches between five game telemetry layouts, manually or triggered by the game. RevLED and FlagLED behavior is user-defined in FanaLab on PC. Reviewers note telemetry depends on game support.
