Fanatec CSL Steering Wheel P1 V2 (QR2 Lite)

Budget 300 mm round wheel with RevStripe, LED display and QR2 Lite

Description

The Fanatec CSL Steering Wheel P1 V2 is Fanatec's most affordable wheel, pitched as an ideal starter wheel for the CSL DD. Its 300 mm round rim suits many vehicle types, and the lightweight polymer construction preserves fine force feedback detail even at low torque.

Build. Polymer casing with an internal structure for strength and rubberized grips that stay comfortable over long sessions, even with sweaty hands.

Controls. 12 face buttons, a 5-way directional stick (4-way plus push) and metal shifter paddles with snap-dome switches for a positive click. The RevStripe, a multi-color LED that works as center stripe and RPM indicator, sits at the top of the rim above a three-digit LED display for telemetry and the Tuning Menu.

Quick release and torque. QR2 Lite Wheel-Side preinstalled. Fanatec states the wheel always limits base torque to about 8 Nm, regardless of quick release; full CSL DD / GT DD Pro torque with the Boost Kit 180 is supported.

Compatibility. Podium DD1/DD2, ClubSport DD/DD+, ClubSport V2/V2.5, CSL DD, Gran Turismo DD Pro, CSL Elite+ and CSL Elite V1.1; bases that cannot be upgraded to QR2 need a QR1 Wheel-Side. Windows PC and PlayStation with a PlayStation-licensed base. Not compatible with Xbox.

Driving style

The CSL P1 V2 is the entry point to the Fanatec ecosystem: a 300 mm rubberised rim with a RevStripe LED, a three-digit display for gear and speed, 12 buttons, a 5-way stick and metal paddle shifters, with QR2 Lite preinstalled. Its 300 mm size and light construction suit many driving styles, from GT racing in Assetto Corsa to road driving in Forza and Gran Turismo-style events, and the lightweight rim preserves force feedback detail even at low torque settings. Best for beginners and mixed-discipline PC or console driving; less suited for competitive esports that demand magnetic paddles and carbon construction.

Build quality

Entry-level build

This is where the range starts: a rubberised wheel rim over a polymer core with improved ergonomics, snap-dome metal paddle shifters rather than magnetic ones, and a plastic front face carrying the RevStripe and display. The QR2 Lite Wheel-Side is carbon fibre-reinforced composite. It is honest, durable budget construction, not pretending to be aluminium, and the buttons and stick are rated for long service, but everything is chosen to hit an entry price.

Software

The CSL P1 V2 runs entirely through the Fanatec base it mounts to: firmware, Tuning Menu and force feedback settings are configured in the Fanatec App for Windows PC, which also updates the base and the quick release electronics. On console, compatibility follows the base: pair it with a PlayStation-licensed base for PS4 and PS5, while PC works with any Fanatec base. The RevStripe and three-digit display also give access to the Tuning Menu for on-the-fly adjustments. Inputs and telemetry use the Fanatec SDK in supported games, and SimHub can push custom dashboards to compatible displays.

Frequently asked questions

Which wheel bases and consoles does the CSL P1 V2 work with?

Fanatec lists Podium DD1/DD2, ClubSport DD/DD+, ClubSport V2/V2.5, CSL DD, Gran Turismo DD Pro, CSL Elite+ and CSL Elite V1.1. It ships with a QR2 Lite Wheel-Side; if your base cannot be upgraded to QR2, buy a QR1 Wheel-Side separately. It works on PC and on PlayStation with a licensed base, but not on Xbox.

Does the P1 V2 limit my wheel base's torque?

Yes. Fanatec states the wheel always limits base torque to about 8 Nm, regardless of quick release, and Flow Racers notes it cannot use high torque mode on Podium bases. Fanatec says full torque of a CSL DD or GT DD Pro with the Boost Kit 180 is still possible with the preinstalled QR2 Lite.

How do the buttons and paddles feel?

Flow Racers found the buttons squishy, similar to a game controller, and the two metal paddles slightly small; they use snap-dome switches rather than magnets and are not removable. The rubberized grips are comfortable, but the rest of the casing is hard plastic with a visible fake carbon finish. The reviewer weighed it at about 1.2 kg.

Is the P1 V2 durable?

Flow Racers reported it feels durable with no noticeable wear, though it noted some second-hand units have plastic all the way round the rim. Fanatec says the polymer casing has an internal structure for strength and that the rubberized grip stays comfortable even with sweaty hands.

How does it compare with the CSL Steering Wheel BMW?

Flow Racers describes the CSL BMW as nearly identical, with BMW branding, copper paddles and a different grip pattern for about $20 more ($189.99 vs $169.99 on Fanatec US). Stepping up to the CSL Elite McLaren GT3 V2 adds switches, encoders, an OLED and clutch paddles.

Is the P1 V2 good value?

Flow Racers rated it 9/10 for value and called it one of the cheapest rims that can do much of what premium rims do, best for beginners and budget rally or drift fans. Buyers who care about button or shifter feel, or want dials and a bigger screen, should look elsewhere. Fanatec US lists it at $169.99.

What warranty does Fanatec offer on this wheel?

Since June 3, 2025, Fanatec offers a three-year limited warranty on Fanatec-branded products bought from Fanatec or authorized retailers, plus a 30-day return window. Wear, misuse or unauthorized modifications are excluded.

What does the display show and how do I change settings?

Press the Tuning button and use the directional stick to adjust force feedback and hardware settings on the three-digit LED display while you drive. In compatible games or third-party software, the display shows telemetry such as speed or gear, and the RevStripe works as a shift light.
