Fanatec CSL Steering Wheel BMW
BMW-licensed 300 mm starter wheel with copper paddles, RevStripe and QR2 Lite
Description
The Fanatec CSL Steering Wheel BMW completes Fanatec's BMW line-up as the budget option below the ClubSport BMW M3 GT2 V2 replica and the Podium BMW M4 GT3. It is officially licensed by BMW and pitched as an ideal starter wheel for the CSL DD.
Design. A unique BMW-designed graphic stretches across the front face and rim. The 300 mm diameter suits many vehicle types, and the polymer casing with internal structure keeps it light at 1224 g (with QR2 Lite) for fine force feedback detail. Rubberized grips stay comfortable even with sweaty hands.
Controls. 12 face buttons, a 5-way directional stick and copper-finish metal shifter paddles with snap-dome switches. The RevStripe multi-color center stripe and RPM indicator sits above a three-digit LED display for telemetry and the Tuning Menu.
Quick release. Tool-free QR2 Lite Wheel-Side preinstalled. Fanatec notes High Torque Mode is not accessible on Podium bases with this wheel, while full CSL DD / GT DD Pro torque with the Boost Kit 180 is supported.
Compatibility. Podium DD1/DD2, ClubSport V2/V2.5, CSL Elite bases, CSL DD and Gran Turismo DD Pro. Windows PC and PlayStation with a PlayStation-licensed base. Not compatible with Xbox.
Features & highlights
Driving style
The CSL BMW is the budget entry to Fanatec's BMW-licensed line-up, a 300 mm round wheel with a unique BMW-designed graphic across the face and rim, pitched as the ideal starter wheel for the CSL DD. The polymer casing keeps it light at 1224 g so force feedback detail survives even at low torque, and the rubberized grips stay secure with sweaty hands through long sessions. The 300 mm size is a genuine all-rounder for GT, road, rally and drift driving in Forza Motorsport, Assetto Corsa, iRacing and Gran Turismo-style events. Best for beginners and mixed-discipline driving; less suited for competitive esports that demand magnetic paddles and metal construction.
Build quality
The construction is honest about its price: a polymer casing over an internal structure with rubberized grips, not an aluminium rim dressed up as one. The paddles are copper-finish metal with snap-dome switches rather than magnetic ones, and the wheel includes the carbon fibre-reinforced QR2 Lite Wheel-Side, holding the total to 1224 g. Twelve face buttons, a 5-way directional stick, the RevStripe and a three-digit LED display cover the controls. It is durable budget hardware, but plastic rather than metal throughout the shell.
Software
The CSL BMW runs entirely through the Fanatec base it mounts to: firmware, Tuning Menu and force feedback settings are configured in the Fanatec App for Windows PC, which also updates the base and the quick release electronics. On console, compatibility follows the base: pair it with a PlayStation-licensed base for PS4 and PS5, while PC works with any Fanatec base. The Tuning Menu is reachable directly on the wheel through the three-digit LED display and directional stick, telemetry shows on the display and RevStripe in compatible games, and SimHub can push custom dashboards to the display on PC.
