Fanatec Boost Kit 180 (8 Nm)

180W power supply that unlocks 8 Nm peak torque on the CSL DD and Gran Turismo DD Pro

Description

The Fanatec Boost Kit 180 is a 180W power supply designed for the CSL DD and Gran Turismo DD Pro. It replaces the standard 90W supply and raises peak torque from 5 Nm to 8 Nm, giving the force feedback a wider dynamic range.

Plug and play. The wheel base detects the Boost Kit and releases the extra power automatically; no other setup is required. Fanatec says both bases were designed and tested with the Boost Kit in mind, so the extra output does not compromise durability.

Safety and warranty. Only the standard 90W supply or the Boost Kit 180 may be used with these bases. Fanatec warns that any other power supply voids the wheel base warranty and can be dangerous.

Compatibility. CSL DD and Gran Turismo DD Pro only; not compatible with other Fanatec wheel bases. The CSL DD (8 Nm) and some Gran Turismo DD Pro packages already include it. The US version ships with regional power cables.

Driving style

The Boost Kit 180 matters most for drivers who have outgrown the 5 Nm CSL DD: experienced racers who want stronger, more detailed force feedback in iRacing, Assetto Corsa Competizione, Assetto Corsa or rally titles, and anyone using a heavier or larger rim such as a 330 mm classic or rally wheel. Fanatec's own guide says 5 Nm is plenty for beginners or drivers coming from a belt or gear base, while 8 Nm gives more headroom and makes sudden force feedback spikes easier to handle even when FFB is turned down.

Best for CSL DD 5 Nm owners who want more torque without buying a new base; less suited for beginners happy at 5 Nm, or drivers on a plastic table clamp, where extra torque can make the mount flex.

Build quality

Mid-range build

The Boost Kit 180 is a custom 180W external power supply, tested by Fanatec to meet regional electrical safety standards and designed specifically for the CSL DD and Gran Turismo DD Pro electronics. Fanatec states the higher output does not affect the durability of either base.

Software

No software is needed: the CSL DD or Gran Turismo DD Pro detects the Boost Kit 180 and unlocks 8 Nm automatically. Torque and force feedback strength are then adjusted as usual in the Fanatec App for Windows or the base's Tuning Menu.

Because the change happens in the base, the extra torque is available on PC, PlayStation and Xbox setups alike.

Frequently asked questions

Which wheel bases does the Boost Kit 180 work with?

Only the CSL DD and the Gran Turismo DD Pro. Fanatec states it is not compatible with any other Fanatec wheel base. The CSL DD (8 Nm) and some Gran Turismo DD Pro packages already include it.

Do I need to configure anything after installing the Boost Kit 180?

No. You replace the standard 90W power supply with the 180W Boost Kit, and the base detects it and releases the extra power automatically. Force feedback strength is still adjusted as usual in the Fanatec App or Tuning Menu.

Is 8 Nm noticeably better than 5 Nm on the CSL DD?

Fanatec says 5 Nm is plenty for beginners and drivers coming from belt or gear bases, while 8 Nm gives more headroom, handles sudden force feedback spikes better and suits heavier or larger wheels. You can start at 5 Nm and add the Boost Kit later.

Can I use a third-party power supply instead of the Boost Kit?

No. Fanatec says only the standard 90W supply or the Boost Kit 180 may be used with the CSL DD and Gran Turismo DD Pro. Any other power supply voids the wheel base warranty, can damage the hardware and is potentially dangerous.

Does the extra torque shorten the life of the CSL DD?

Fanatec states that the CSL DD and Gran Turismo DD Pro were designed and tested with the Boost Kit 180 in mind, and that its increased performance does not compromise the durability of the wheel base.

Is the Boost Kit 180 worth the price?

It is currently on sale for $59.99 on Fanatec US (regular $119.99) and costs €99.95 in the EU. On Fanatec's forum, many users called the regular price high for what is only a power supply, while others argued the CSL DD package is still good value overall; there is no clear consensus.

Should I buy the CSL DD 5 Nm plus the Boost Kit or the CSL DD 8 Nm?

Both end up at 8 Nm with the same base and power supply. The 5 Nm version plus a later Boost Kit spreads the cost, while the 8 Nm version includes the Boost Kit from the start; compare the current prices of both packages, since the Boost Kit is often discounted.
