Fanatec CSL Pedals Load Cell Kit

Load cell brake upgrade for CSL Pedals that turns the old brake into a clutch

Description

The Fanatec CSL Pedals Load Cell Kit replaces the brake of the CSL Pedals with a load cell brake that measures pressure instead of travel, so braking feels closer to a real car and builds muscle memory.

Brake. Heavy steel construction (except the pedal face) with pearl chrome plating, a custom load cell sensor with 12-bit precision and a heavy-duty elastomer stack of 65 Shore hardness for firm resistance. Load cell sensitivity (minimum approx. 10 kg) is adjustable in the Tuning Menu or, on PC, in the Fanatec Control Panel. The pedal face is height-adjustable and the pedal can slide sideways along the heel rest.

Electronics and clutch. The kit upgrades the pedals' electronics and adds USB, so the CSL Pedals can run as a standalone USB device on PC, or connect via RJ12 to a Fanatec base. The original brake pedal can then be used as a clutch, so the Clutch Kit is not needed. Min and max calibration is saved in internal memory.

Compatibility. Only for the CSL Pedals. With them it works with all CSL Elite, CSL DD, ClubSport and Podium wheel bases, and with the CSL Pedals Tuning Kit. Consoles are supported only through a Fanatec wheel base.

Features & highlights

Load cell brake upgrade for CSL Pedals
Custom load cell sensor, 12-bit
Heavy-duty 65 Shore elastomer stack
Adjustable brake sensitivity (min. approx. 10 kg)
Heavy steel construction with pearl chrome plating
Height-adjustable pedal face
Sideways adjustable along heel rest
Upgraded electronics with USB and RJ12
Original brake becomes a clutch pedal
Pressure-based braking for consistency
Adds a third pedal by converting the stock brake to a clutch
Makes CSL Pedals a standalone USB device on PC

Driving style

The Load Cell Kit is the key upgrade for CSL Pedals owners who want consistent braking. Pressure-based braking helps with trail braking and repeatable brake points in iRacing, Assetto Corsa Competizione, Le Mans Ultimate, F1 25 and Gran Turismo 7. The converted clutch pedal adds manual-gearbox control for historic cars, rally and drifting with an H-pattern shifter.

It suits CSL Pedals owners moving from casual to competitive driving. Best for drivers who want lap-to-lap consistency and a third pedal on a budget; less suited for owners of other Fanatec pedal sets, which it does not fit.

Build quality

Mid-range build

The brake unit is heavy steel with pearl chrome plating, a custom load cell and a 65 Shore elastomer stack, matching the all-metal CSL Pedals. Community commenters credit the all-metal build as a reason to pay a bit more than plastic rivals. It is an entry-to-mid tier load cell, below ClubSport and Podium pedals in adjustability.

Software

Brake sensitivity and calibration are set in the Tuning Menu (BRF setting) through a supported Fanatec steering wheel when connected via RJ12, or in the Fanatec Control Panel / Fanatec App on Windows PC when connected via USB. Min and max calibration values are stored in the pedals' internal memory.

On console the pedals work only through a Fanatec wheel base. On PC they can run as a standalone USB device, and tools like SimHub can read the inputs for overlays and telemetry.

Frequently asked questions

Which pedals does the CSL Pedals Load Cell Kit work with?

Only the Fanatec CSL Pedals. Fanatec states it is not compatible with any other Fanatec pedal set. With CSL Pedals it works on all CSL Elite, CSL DD, ClubSport and Podium wheel bases.

Do I still need the CSL Pedals Clutch Kit?

No. The Load Cell Kit replaces the brake pedal, and the original brake can be used as the clutch, giving you three pedals without the Clutch Kit.

Can I use the pedals on PC without a Fanatec wheel base?

Yes. The kit upgrades the electronics and adds a USB port, so the CSL Pedals work as a standalone USB device on PC. On consoles they must be connected through a Fanatec wheel base.

How does the load cell brake feel?

It measures pressure rather than travel, with a 65 Shore elastomer stack for firm resistance. An Overtake.gg user called it comparable to other well set-up load cells, while another reported a steep signal drop-off at the end of brake release and replaced the sensors.

How do I adjust brake force?

Via RJ12, set the BRF value in the Tuning Menu from a supported Fanatec wheel or in the Fanatec Control Panel. Via USB, sensitivity is only adjustable in the Fanatec Control Panel. Min and max calibration is saved to internal memory.

How does it compare with the Thrustmaster T-LCM?

Overtake.gg commenters say the T-LCM offers more adjustability, while the CSL kit has an all-metal build; one called the slightly higher price worth it for the metal construction.

Is the kit worth it versus buying CSL Pedals LC?

The kit costs $99.99 at Fanatec US. If you already own CSL Pedals it is the upgrade path; new buyers can get the CSL Pedals LC bundle ($239.98), which combines the pedals and this kit. Some users note the add-on greatly increases the cost of the entry-level set.

Are there known reliability issues?

The load cell avoids the potentiometer spikes users reported on older CSL Elite pedals. One Overtake.gg user found the release curve too abrupt for his taste; recalibrating min and max values in the Fanatec Control Panel is the first step before contacting Fanatec support.

Is installation covered by warranty?

Installation uses the included Torx key and bolts and follows Fanatec's Quick Guide. For defects or calibration problems, contact Fanatec support through your account.
