Fanatec ClubSport Steering Wheel Formula V2.5 X

Xbox-licensed 270 mm carbon formula wheel with OLED, RGB LEDs and magnetic paddles

Description

The Fanatec ClubSport Steering Wheel Formula V2.5 X keeps the shape of the iconic 270 mm ClubSport Formula wheel and is officially licensed for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, unlocking Fanatec peripherals on Xbox when connected to a compatible base.

Build. Metal and carbon construction with a 5 mm solid carbon fiber front plate (about 30 layers of unidirectional carbon), genuine Alcantara grips and rubber-coated button framing and thumb encoders. Weight is about 1250 g.

Controls. 11 buttons plus four paddles, two 2-way toggle switches, two 12-way multi-position switches with encoder function, a 7-way FunkySwitch, an analog joystick and two thumb encoders reachable without releasing the grips, for up to 67 adjustable game functions. Two vibration motors in the grips are controlled via the Tuning Menu or the Fanatec SDK.

Paddles and outputs. Preinstalled ClubSport Magnetic Paddle Module (3 mm aluminum plates, CNC aluminum cage, neodymium magnets), upgradable to the Podium Advanced Paddle Module. Nine RGB RevLEDs, two 3-LED FlagLEDs and a 1" 128x64 white OLED for telemetry and Tuning Menu, customizable in FanaLab.

Compatibility. Works with CSL DD, Gran Turismo DD Pro, ClubSport DD/DD+ and Podium DD1/DD2 with the included QR2 Wheel-Side; ClubSport V2/V2.5 and CSL Elite bases require a QR1 Wheel-Side. Xbox and Windows PC; PS4/PS5 when paired with a PlayStation-licensed direct drive base. Some features depend on game support for the Fanatec SDK.

Driving style

The Formula V2.5 X is a compact 270 mm formula-style wheel for drivers who want fast hands and race-car inputs in one package. The D-shaped carbon front plate puts 11 buttons, four paddle switches, thumb encoders and a 7-way FunkySwitch at your thumbs, while the OLED display and nine-RevLED bar show gear, speed and shift points in the F1 series, iRacing, Assetto Corsa Competizione and rFactor 2. Magnetic paddles give crisp, repeatable shifts, and the genuine Alcantara grips hold up in long sprints. Best for formula, single-seater and GT3 sprint racing; less suited for rally, drift or hand-over-hand driving that wants a full round rim.

Build quality

Premium build

The wheel pairs a 5 mm solid carbon fibre front plate, laid up from roughly 30 layers of unidirectional cloth, with a durable metal body and genuine Alcantara grips, materials rarely combined below this price. The pre-installed ClubSport Magnetic Paddle Module uses 3 mm anodised aluminium plates in a CNC-machined cage with neodymium magnets for a sharp, consistent click, and it can be upgraded to the Podium Advanced Paddle Module. Rubber-coated button framing and thumb encoders resist wear, and at about 1250 g the wheel feels dense, rigid and ready for hard, repeated shifting.

Software

The Formula V2.5 X has no electronics needing a separate driver: firmware, Tuning Menu and force feedback settings run through the Fanatec base it mounts to, managed in the Fanatec App for Windows PC, which also installs base firmware updates. Being officially licensed for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, it is plug-and-play on Xbox with any compatible Fanatec base, and it works on PS4 and PS5 when paired with a PlayStation-licensed direct drive base; PC works with all Fanatec bases. The OLED display and RevLEDs show telemetry through the Fanatec SDK in supported games, FanaLab programs the LED behaviour, and SimHub can drive the display with custom layouts.

Frequently asked questions

Which wheel bases and consoles does the ClubSport Formula V2.5 X work with?

With the included QR2 Wheel-Side it fits CSL DD, Gran Turismo DD Pro, ClubSport DD/DD+ and Podium DD1/DD2; ClubSport V2/V2.5 and CSL Elite bases need a QR1 Wheel-Side. It is officially licensed for Xbox One and Series X|S, works on Windows PC, and works on PS4/PS5 when paired with a PlayStation-licensed direct drive base.

Does it come with QR1 or QR2?

Fanatec's current US listing includes a QR2 Wheel-Side, packaged separately. Older reviews, such as OC Racing's, list QR1 as the default with QR2 as an extra cost, so check the box contents if buying from a third-party seller. Belt-driven bases (ClubSport V2/V2.5, CSL Elite) still require a QR1 Wheel-Side.

How does the Formula V2.5 X feel to drive?

OC Racing reported zero flex and called it one of Fanatec's best-looking rims, with a reader praising the responsive magnetic paddles and Alcantara grips. SimRacingHub praised build quality, ergonomics, grip and driving sensation, but noted it is quite heavy for a formula wheel (Fanatec quotes about 1250 g).

Are there known issues with the Formula V2.5 X?

OC Racing reported that the shift lights and OLED display cut out at times, and found the thumb encoders too light. SimRacingHub described the wheel as an older model compared with newer rivals. Fanatec recommends keeping firmware up to date, and Alcantara grips benefit from gloves and regular cleaning.

How does it compare with the F1 Esports V2?

Both are 270 mm formula wheels with Alcantara grips, RGB LEDs and grip vibration. The Formula V2.5 X adds a carbon front plate, 12-way switches, thumb encoders, an OLED, aluminum ClubSport paddles and Xbox licensing for $439.99, while the F1 Esports V2 costs $269.99 and has no encoders and no Xbox support. SimRacingHub names Simagic, Moza and GSI as competing options.

Is the Formula V2.5 X good value?

Fanatec US lists it at $439.99 and Fanatec EU at 369.95 EUR. OC Racing considered it good value, mainly for Fanatec owners who want one formula rim for all platforms, and SimRacingHub called it still a very good choice for value despite being relatively expensive and an older design.

What warranty does Fanatec offer on this wheel?

Since June 3, 2025, Fanatec offers a three-year limited warranty on Fanatec-branded products bought from Fanatec or authorized retailers, plus a 30-day return window. Wear, misuse or unauthorized modifications are excluded.

What works on Xbox, and what can I customize?

The OLED Tuning Menu works on all platforms, and LED and display behavior can be customized in FanaLab on PC. On Xbox, Fanatec says extra buttons may duplicate gamepad buttons or have no function, and RevLEDs, FlagLEDs, display telemetry and vibration depend on each game supporting the Fanatec SDK.
