Officially licensed F1 formula wheel with RGB LEDs, grip vibration and magnetic paddles

Description

The Fanatec ClubSport Steering Wheel F1® Esports V2 is officially licensed by Formula 1 and used by F1 Esports drivers. The V2 adds magnetic shifters, customizable RGB LEDs, revised firmware-updatable electronics and an exchangeable quick release over the original.

Driving style

The F1 Esports V2 is the officially licensed Formula 1 replica wheel for sim racers who want authentic single-seater ergonomics without a four-figure price. At 270 mm it turns in fast, and the 11 buttons, analogue joystick, 7-way FunkySwitch, two grip vibration motors and blue telemetry display cover everything from pit limiter to ABS in the F1 series, iRacing, Assetto Corsa Competizione and rFactor 2. RevLEDs and FlagLEDs signal RPM, slip and warnings the way the real car does. Best for F1, F2 and open-wheel esports-style sprint racing; less suited for rally, drifting or long GT stints on a round rim.

Build quality

Mid-range build

Construction is mostly metal with genuine Alcantara grips, and the compact 270 mm wheel feels dense and purposeful at this price. The pre-installed CSL Elite Magnetic Paddle Module uses 3 mm anodised aluminium plates moved by neodymium magnets, but its cage is a polymer composite rather than CNC aluminium, which is the main cost saving against the ClubSport module. Button surrounds, the analogue joystick and the FunkySwitch are polymer too. It is durable kit, and the paddle module upgrades to the ClubSport Magnetic or Podium Advanced Paddle Module if you want a harder snap later.

Software

The F1 Esports V2 needs no driver of its own: firmware, the Tuning Menu and force feedback settings all run through the Fanatec wheel base it mounts to, configured in the Fanatec App for Windows PC, which also delivers base firmware updates. The wheel is fully compatible with Windows PC, and on console it works with PS4 and PS5 when paired with a PlayStation-licensed direct drive base. Telemetry on the blue LED display and the RevLEDs and FlagLEDs is driven by the Fanatec SDK in supported games, FanaLab can program the LED patterns, and SimHub can drive the display with custom dashboards.

Frequently asked questions

Which wheel bases and consoles does the F1 Esports V2 work with?

It needs a Fanatec wheel base. Fanatec lists Podium DD1/DD2, ClubSport V2/V2.5, CSL Elite bases, CSL DD and Gran Turismo DD Pro. It works on Windows PC and on PlayStation with a PlayStation-licensed base, where functionality may be limited. It is not compatible with Xbox; Fanatec's Xbox-licensed formula wheel is the Formula V2.5 X.

What changed from the original F1 Esports wheel?

Traxion reports the V2 adds magnetic shift paddles for a crisper gearchange, a FanaLab-adjustable RGB RevLED strip, revised electronics that support the optional Podium Advanced Paddle Module, and an exchangeable quick release. Fanatec's current listing ships it with a QR2 Wheel-Side.

How does it feel to drive?

OC Racing found the magnetic metal paddles crisp and firm, the buttons clicky, the LEDs bright, and noticed no flex in an ergonomic, comfortable shape. The Alcantara grips feel good but the reviewer suggests gloves to keep their feel. Grip vibration motors add tactile feedback in supported games.

Does it have rotary or thumb encoders?

No. Besides the FunkySwitch's rotary function, there are no rotary or thumb encoders, which OC Racing considers the main drawback for formula cars where you adjust brake bias or differential often. Traxion notes it also lacks the Formula V2.5's carbon fascia and multi-position switches.

How does it compare with the Formula V2.5 X?

The F1 Esports V2 ($269.99 on Fanatec US) is the cheaper F1-style option. The Formula V2.5 X ($439.99) adds a 5 mm carbon front plate, two 12-way switches, thumb encoders, an OLED, the aluminum ClubSport paddle module and Xbox licensing.

Is the F1 Esports V2 good value?

OC Racing called it the best value rim in the Fanatec ecosystem, held back mainly by its missing encoders, and best suited to budget-minded formula racers. Fanatec US lists it at $269.99 and Fanatec EU at 239.95 EUR.

What warranty does Fanatec offer on this wheel?

Since June 3, 2025, Fanatec offers a three-year limited warranty on Fanatec-branded products bought from Fanatec or authorized retailers, plus a 30-day return window. Wear, misuse or unauthorized modifications are excluded.

What can I customize?

The RevLEDs and FlagLEDs are programmable in FanaLab and by games via the Fanatec SDK. Press the Tuning button and use the FunkySwitch to adjust force feedback and vibration (SHO) on the LED display during gameplay. The electronics are firmware-updatable through the Fanatec driver on PC.
