Driving style

The ClubSport BMW M3 GT2 V2 is an officially licensed, full-dimension replica of the BMW M3 GT2 race car wheel: 320 mm of genuine Italian Alcantara over a completely revised metal structure, sized for the precise, smooth inputs of GT and touring racing. The wheel is 30% lighter than the original GT2 version, so acceleration and force feedback fidelity both improve, and the CNC-machined aluminium magnetic paddle module gives crisp, repeatable shifts. Eleven buttons, two paddle shifter buttons and a 7-way FunkySwitch cover the inputs in Assetto Corsa Competizione, iRacing and GT racing. Best for GT and touring car racing with gloves; less suited for rally, drifting and formula cars.

Build quality

Premium build

The structure is entirely metal, redesigned to be stronger and 30% lighter than the original GT2 wheel, and the rim is wrapped in genuine Italian-made Alcantara with authentic BMW Motorsport detailing. The paddle module is CNC-machined aluminium with magnetic switching for a sharp, consistent feel, and the electronics are firmware-updatable, with the QR2 Wheel-Side included in the bundle. Reviewers describe the wheel as robust and well finished; the grips run slightly thin, but every load-bearing part is metal, which puts it firmly at the premium end.

Software

The BMW M3 GT2 V2 has no driver of its own: firmware, Tuning Menu and force feedback settings run through the Fanatec wheel base it mounts to, configured in the Fanatec App for Windows PC, which also delivers firmware updates for the wheel electronics. On console, compatibility follows the base: pair it with a PlayStation-licensed base for PS4 and PS5, while PC works with any Fanatec base. The FunkySwitch reaches the Tuning Menu on the wheel itself, RevLEDs and the display show game-dependent telemetry through the Fanatec SDK, FanaLab programs the LEDs, and SimHub can drive the display with custom dashboards.

Frequently asked questions

Which wheel bases and consoles does the ClubSport BMW M3 GT2 V2 work with?

Fanatec lists Podium DD1/DD2, ClubSport DD/DD+, ClubSport V2/V2.5, CSL Elite bases, CSL DD and Gran Turismo DD Pro. It works on Windows PC and on PlayStation with a PlayStation-licensed base, with possibly limited functionality. It is not Xbox compatible; Fanatec's Xbox FAQ notes no BMW-licensed Fanatec wheels are Xbox compatible as of August 2026.

How do the paddles and grip feel?

BoxThisLap called the new magnetic paddles a major upgrade in travel and precision, saying their feel is fantastic, and found the Alcantara high quality with a secure grip. It noted the grip is not thick, which may bother drivers with large hands. The 30% weight reduction over V1 was hard to notice in the hand.

What changed from the original BMW GT2 wheel?

Fanatec says the V2 has a revised, stronger and 30% lighter metal structure, firmware-updatable electronics and CNC aluminum magnetic paddles. BoxThisLap notes the layout, buttons, LEDs and display are unchanged, the encoders are now precise, and the vibration motor of the first version was removed.

Are there any drawbacks to the layout?

BoxThisLap found the 11 buttons spread out, so some require taking a hand off the wheel, and missed the V1's vibration motor for shift cues. Fanatec recommends cleaning the Alcantara with a microfiber cloth and lukewarm water, avoiding chemical cleaners.

How does it compare with the CSL BMW and Podium BMW M4 GT3?

Fanatec positions the GT2 V2 replica between the budget CSL Steering Wheel BMW ($189.99, polymer with snap-dome paddles) and the Podium BMW M4 GT3, the real race car wheel. The GT2 V2 adds a metal structure, Alcantara rim and magnetic aluminum paddles for $429.98 with QR2 on Fanatec US.

Is the BMW GT2 V2 good value?

BoxThisLap called it a remarkable wheel for quality, features and price and one of the fundamental wheels in the Fanatec ecosystem, while noting the price had risen. Fanatec US lists this bundle with QR2 at $429.98.

What warranty does Fanatec offer on this wheel?

Since June 3, 2025, Fanatec offers a three-year limited warranty on Fanatec-branded products bought from Fanatec or authorized retailers, plus a 30-day return window. Wear, misuse or unauthorized modifications are excluded.

What do the display and LEDs show?

BoxThisLap reports the display and LEDs show the current gear, pit limiter status and rev-limit warnings, configurable for different sim metrics. The FunkySwitch and LED display give access to the Tuning Menu during gameplay, and the electronics are firmware-updatable via the Fanatec driver.
