Fanatec Podium Kill Switch

Emergency stop and remote power button for the Podium DD1 and DD2 wheel bases

Description

The Fanatec Podium Kill Switch adds an emergency stop and a remote power button to the Podium Wheel Base DD1, DD1 PS4 and DD2.

Emergency stop. Pressing the anodized red, brushed aluminum E-stop cuts all power to the wheel base instantly, an extra layer of safety on top of the base's built-in protections, aimed especially at professional and shared setups. Rotate the cap to re-enable it.

Remote power. Podium base power buttons sit at the back of the unit, which can be hard to reach in some rigs. The kill switch includes a dedicated button to turn the base on and off.

Mounting. A 2 m RJ12 cable and threaded mounting holes on the top, left and right sides let you place it almost anywhere on a rig, with channels underneath for cable routing. Plastic housing with an internal structure; 140 g.

Compatibility. Fanatec's help center confirms it only works with the older Podium DD1, DD2 and Podium Racing Wheel F1. The current Podium DD (25 Nm), ClubSport DD, CSL DD and Gran Turismo DD Pro lack the RJ12 port it needs.

Driving style

The Podium Kill Switch is a safety and convenience accessory rather than a performance upgrade. It suits Podium DD1 and DD2 owners running high torque on a rig where the base's rear power button is hard to reach, and especially shared, esports or commercial simulators where someone needs to cut power to the wheel instantly if something goes wrong. It works the same regardless of discipline, from GT and formula to drifting at full Podium torque.

Best for Podium DD1/DD2 owners, simulator centers and anyone who wants a reachable power and E-stop control; not an option for current Podium DD (25 Nm), ClubSport DD or CSL DD owners, whose bases lack the RJ12 port it needs.

Build quality

Mid-range build

The housing is durable plastic with a robust internal structure and Podium styling, while the emergency stop button is brushed, anodized red aluminum. At 140 g it is light, with threaded mounting holes on three sides and cable channels underneath for tidy installation.

Software

The Podium Kill Switch needs no software or drivers: it connects to the Podium DD1 or DD2 over RJ12 and works directly at the hardware level. Wheel base settings stay in the Fanatec App for Windows and the base's Tuning Menu.

Because it acts on the base's power, it works the same whether the Podium base is used on PC or, with the DD1 PS4, on PlayStation.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Podium Kill Switch work with the new Podium DD (25 Nm) or the CSL DD?

No. Fanatec's help center says it is only compatible with the older Podium DD1, DD2 and Podium Racing Wheel F1. The current Podium DD, ClubSport DD, CSL DD and Gran Turismo DD Pro do not have the RJ12 port it requires.

What does the kill switch actually do?

Pressing the emergency stop instantly cuts all power to the connected Podium base; rotating the cap re-enables it. It also has a separate power button so you can switch the base on and off without reaching the power button on the back of the unit.

Do I need a kill switch if Podium bases already have safety features?

Fanatec says Podium bases have several integrated safety features and presents the kill switch as an extra layer of security, particularly in professional applications such as shared or commercial simulators. For home users it is mainly a convenience and peace-of-mind accessory.

How do I mount the Podium Kill Switch on my rig?

It has threaded mounting holes on the top, left and right sides and a 2 m RJ12 cable, so it can be placed almost anywhere on a rig. Channels on the underside help route cables.

Does the kill switch need software?

No. It connects to the Podium base over RJ12 and works at the hardware level, without drivers or app settings.
