Thrustmaster EVO Racing 32R Leather

32 cm round wheel with detachable EVO hub, 25 buttons, 7 LEDs and long magnetic paddles

Description

The Thrustmaster EVO Racing 32R Leather is the first complete wheel of Thrustmaster's modular EVO Racing range: an EVO Racing Hub with a detachable round rim and long, curved paddles, designed for rally and versatile driving.

Rim. A 32 cm (12.6 in) round rim in synthetic leather with yellow stitching, on a brushed aluminum faceplate. 320 × 111 × 320 mm, 1,300 g.

Hub and controls. 25 action buttons including 4 rotary encoders, a D-pad and a thumbstick, 7 LEDs for RPM and race information with two modes, and long magnetic paddles adjustable by a few millimetres. Analog paddles are available as the EVO Analog Lever Set.

Modular. The rim detaches, so you can fit the 31U or 31D rims.

Compatibility. Two included Quick Release holders fit all Thrustmaster force feedback bases, including the T300, TX, T-GT II, TS-XW, T818 and T598, on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.

Driving style

The EVO Racing 32R suits rally in EA SPORTS WRC and DiRT Rally 2.0, plus GT, road-car and endurance driving, thanks to its round rim and long paddles. BoxThisLap praised its comfort for long endurance races, and OverTake.gg recommends it over the oval Hypercar wheel for rally and drift.

Best for Thrustmaster owners who want one versatile, upgradable wheel for rally and mixed disciplines; less suited for buyers who want metal or carbon construction or backlit buttons at this price.

Build quality

Mid-range build

It has a brushed aluminum faceplate and synthetic leather rim, at 1,300 g. Mediaberry found the hub almost entirely plastic, with wobbly, unlit buttons and slight rim flex under heavy load, and scored it 7.5; Sim Race Reviews also noted flex under unusual pressure and no carbon parts.

Software

The wheel is configured through the base's Thrustmaster drivers on PC, or My Thrustmaster Panel on the T818 and T598, where firmware is updated; Thrustmaster's support page lists minimum base firmware. It works plug-and-play on PlayStation and Xbox, and the LEDs switch between two RPM modes on the wheel. In Le Mans Ultimate, telemetry needs the game's LED and hardware display options enabled.

Frequently asked questions

Which bases does the EVO Racing 32R work with?

Two Quick Release holders are included, and BoxThisLap lists the T-GT / T-GT II, T300, TS-XW, TX, T818 and TS-PC Racer; Thrustmaster says it is compatible with all its force feedback bases including the T598, on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.

How is the build quality?

Mediaberry found the hub almost entirely plastic, with buttons and encoders that wobble and no backlighting, and noted slight rim flex under heavy load. Sim Race Reviews also mentioned flex under unusual pressure, while BoxThisLap called it one of Thrustmaster's finest wheels.

How do the paddles and LEDs perform?

Mediaberry found the long, curved magnetic paddles easy to reach, adjustable by a few millimetres and quieter than MOZA's, and rated the 7 LEDs among the most useful rev lights it had tested.

Is it good for rally and drifting?

Thrustmaster designed the round rim and long paddles for rally and other disciplines, and OverTake.gg recommends the EVO 32R over the oval Hypercar wheel for rally and drift.

Can I swap the rim?

Yes. The EVO hub is detachable and accepts the EVO Wheel Rim 31U, 31D and 32R. When it launched, reviewers noted the 32R was the only rim available, but Thrustmaster has since added the 31U and 31D.

EVO Racing 32R vs Ferrari 488 GT3: which is better?

Both fit every Thrustmaster base with two included quick release holders. The 32R is a round, modular wheel with 25 buttons and 7 LEDs at $349.99; the 488 GT3 is a licensed GT3 replica with a carbon-clad faceplate, 11 buttons and 4 LEDs at $279.99.

Is it worth the price?

Mediaberry scored it 7.5, calling it solid but saying it offers no clear price advantage over stronger rivals; Sim Race Reviews called it a versatile rim with big future potential but a hard sell at launch. It suits Thrustmaster owners who want one rim for rally to Formula.

Any known issues?

Thrustmaster's support page covers EVO add-ons disconnecting or losing force feedback after base firmware 2.04, a bootloader wake-up method, and enabling LED and hardware display options for telemetry in Le Mans Ultimate.
