Thrustmaster EVO Racing 31U Leather

31 cm U-shaped wheel with detachable EVO hub, 25 buttons, 7 LEDs and Mag-Shift paddles

Description

The Thrustmaster EVO Racing 31U Leather is a complete wheel from the modular EVO Racing range: an EVO Racing Hub with a detachable U-shaped rim, designed for single-seater and endurance racing.

Rim. A 31 cm (12.2 in) U shape wrapped in perforated synthetic leather with yellow stitching, on a brushed aluminum faceplate. 310 × 111 × 215 mm, 1,180 g.

Hub and controls. 25 action buttons including 4 rotary encoders and a D-pad, adjustable thumb button modules, 7 LEDs for RPM and race information with two modes, and short metal paddles on Mag-Shift magnetic sensors. Analog paddles are available as the EVO Analog Lever Set.

Modular. The rim detaches, so you can fit the 32R or 31D rims.

Compatibility. Two included Quick Release holders fit all Thrustmaster force feedback bases, from the T300 to the T818 and T598, on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.

Driving style

The EVO Racing 31U suits single-seater and endurance racing in F1 25, iRacing, Le Mans Ultimate and Assetto Corsa Competizione, where a U-shaped rim and many buttons help. Because the hub is modular, the same wheel can switch to the round 32R rim for rally.

Best for Thrustmaster owners who want a versatile, upgradable wheel focused on formula and endurance; less suited for buyers who want premium metal or carbon construction or backlit buttons.

Build quality

Mid-range build

It has a brushed aluminum faceplate and perforated synthetic leather rim, at 1,180 g. Mediaberry's review of the same EVO hub found it almost entirely plastic, with slightly wobbly, unlit buttons, though the rims are comfortable.

Software

The wheel is configured through the base's Thrustmaster drivers on PC, or My Thrustmaster Panel on the T818 and T598, where firmware is also updated; Thrustmaster's support page lists minimum base firmware for EVO use. It works plug-and-play on PlayStation and Xbox. The LEDs switch between two RPM modes on the wheel.

Frequently asked questions

Which bases does the EVO Racing 31U work with?

It includes screw-type and latch-type Quick Release holders and is compatible with all Thrustmaster force feedback bases on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Xbox One and PC, from the T300 to the T818 and T598. Thrustmaster's support page lists minimum base firmware.

What is the difference between the EVO Racing 31U and 32R?

Both use the same EVO hub with 25 buttons, 4 encoders and 7 LEDs. The 31U has a 31 cm U-shaped rim with short paddles for single-seaters and endurance; the 32R has a 32 cm round rim with long curved paddles for rally and versatile use.

Can I change the rim later?

Yes. The EVO hub is detachable, so you can fit the EVO Wheel Rim 32R or 31D and swap paddle sets of different sizes and shapes.

Does it have clutch paddles?

Not out of the box. It has short metal Mag-Shift shift paddles; fully configurable analog paddles are sold separately as the EVO Analog Lever Set.

How is the build quality?

The faceplate is brushed aluminum and the rim perforated synthetic leather. Mediaberry, reviewing the same EVO hub with the 32R rim, found the hub almost entirely plastic, with buttons that wobble slightly and no backlighting.

Are the LEDs useful?

The 7 LEDs show RPM and race information with two modes for different engine speeds. Mediaberry considered the EVO hub's LEDs among the most useful rev lights it had tested.

How much does it cost?

BoxThisLap reported 299.99 euros/dollars at launch. When verified, Thrustmaster's US eShop listed it at $349.99.

Are there known firmware issues?

Thrustmaster's EVO Racing Hub support page covers a bootloader wake-up method through My Thrustmaster Panel and add-on updates for the T818 and T598. Update the base to the latest firmware before use.
