Fanatec QR2 Pro Wheel-Side

Billet-aluminum, FIA-standard wheel-side quick release with PTFE coating

Description

The Fanatec QR2 Pro Wheel-Side is the top version of Fanatec's QR2 wheel-side quick release and the first one designed for both real and virtual racing.

Construction. Fully CNC-machined from aviation-grade billet aluminum, with the tapered cone milled from a single block using 5-axis CNC. It was designed to meet FIA standards for use in real motorsport, building on the coupling first used in the 2022 BMW M4 GT3.

How it works. Spring-loaded locking pins and an ultra-low-friction PTFE coating give a tight fit and easy release. Push-on attachment, hot-swap without restarting, and self-aligning, protected electrical contacts for power and data.

Compatibility. Same wheel list as the standard QR2 Wheel-Side; connects to all QR2 Base-Side variants. The wheel base needs a QR2 Base-Side, since QR1 and QR2 are not compatible.

Driving style

The QR2 Pro Wheel-Side is for Fanatec owners who want the most premium quick release on their best wheels, such as a Podium or ClubSport wheel on a high-torque base, or who also race real cars to FIA standards. In the sim, Overtake.gg found it functions the same as the standard QR2, so the gains are material, finish and certification rather than force feedback.

Best for drivers who want billet construction and the matching look on premium wheels; less suited for buyers focused on value, since the standard QR2 performs the same in the sim.

Build quality

Premium build

Fully CNC-machined aviation-grade billet aluminum, 5-axis milled cone, PTFE coating and FIA-standard design. It is the highest-grade QR2 Wheel-Side; Overtake.gg found it performs the same as the diecast version.

Software

The QR2 Pro Wheel-Side needs no software. It passes power and data between wheel and base; the wheel is configured through the Fanatec App on Windows PC and works on console through the base's platform support.

Frequently asked questions

Is the QR2 Pro better than the standard QR2 Wheel-Side?

It uses CNC-machined billet aluminum, is designed to FIA standards and adds a PTFE coating, versus diecast aluminum on the standard QR2. Overtake.gg found it functions the same as the standard QR2 in the sim, so the difference is material, finish and certification.

Which wheels and bases work with the QR2 Pro Wheel-Side?

The same Fanatec wheels as the standard QR2, i.e. those with an exchangeable quick release. The base needs a QR2 Base-Side: Type-C for CSL DD and GT DD Pro, Type-M for Podium DD1/DD2 and Podium Racing Wheel F1.

Can I use the QR2 Pro in a real race car?

Fanatec says it was designed to meet FIA standards for real-world motorsport, building on the coupling first used in the 2022 BMW M4 GT3. Check your series' regulations before using any sim component in a real car.

Does QR2 Pro remove the play of QR1?

Yes, like all QR2 versions. Overtake.gg found QR2 eliminates the rubber-ring flex of QR1 and feels slightly more detailed on small road effects.

Is the QR2 Pro worth the extra cost?

It now costs $99.99 / €99.95, down from €199.95 when Overtake.gg reviewed it, versus $59.99 for the standard QR2. Since the reviewer found no functional difference, it mainly makes sense if you value the billet finish.

Does the QR2 Pro need software?

No. It passes power and data; your wheel keeps using the Fanatec App on PC.
