Fanatec Wheel Hub

Slim QR2 hub that enables force feedback for third-party wheels on Fanatec direct drive bases

Description

The Fanatec Wheel Hub is a simplified version of the Podium Hub, designed mainly for third-party steering wheels. It contains the electronics that let a compatible Fanatec direct drive base detect a wheel and activate force feedback.

Mounting. A diecast aluminum adapter plate with CNC-machined, black anodized finish supports 6 x 70 mm and 6 x 50.8 mm patterns, with a preinstalled QR2 Wheel-Side (also compatible with QR1).

Compatible bases: CSL DD, Gran Turismo DD Pro, ClubSport DD, ClubSport DD+, Podium DD1, DD1 PS4, DD2 and Podium DD (2026). Approved wheel partners include Ascher Racing, BavarianSimTec and VPG Sim, and it fits a long list of Fanatec ClubSport and Podium wheel rims.

Important: it does not transmit data or supply power to the wheel. USB wheels must be connected to the PC with their own cable. It does not support Fanatec button clusters, button modules or paddle modules. It works on Windows PC only: it is not compatible with PlayStation or Xbox, because it has no button inputs.

Driving style

The Fanatec Wheel Hub is for PC sim racers on a Fanatec direct drive base who want to run a third-party wheel, such as a USB formula or GT wheel from Ascher Racing, VPG or Cube Controls, without losing force feedback. Boosted Media calls it the most straightforward official path for existing Fanatec owners and notes it is much thinner than the Podium Hub, so wheel position barely changes when swapping wheels; Zelpio reports solid build with no quality issues. Best for PC drivers mixing third-party wheels with a Fanatec DD base, not suited for console players or for building a wheel around Fanatec button and paddle modules.

Build quality

Mid-range build

The hub combines a diecast aluminum adapter plate with CNC-machined, black anodized finish and a preinstalled all-aluminum QR2 Wheel-Side, adding only about 10 mm of depth. Zelpio reports solid build quality across all three components with no quality issues, and Boosted Media describes it as a slim, focused part.

Software

The hub needs no separate software: it only signals to a compatible Fanatec direct drive base that a wheel is attached, which activates force feedback, and force feedback is tuned in the Windows-only Fanatec App. The third-party wheel's buttons and paddles work through its own USB or wireless connection to the PC with that brand's software. It is not functional on PlayStation or Xbox.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need the Fanatec Wheel Hub to use a third-party wheel on a Fanatec base?

Yes, or another Fanatec hub such as the Podium Hub or a Universal Hub. Fanatec bases only enable force feedback when they detect a Fanatec wheel; the Wheel Hub provides that signal. Regular Fanatec steering wheels do not need a hub.

Does the Fanatec Wheel Hub work on PlayStation or Xbox?

No. Fanatec states it is Windows PC only. Even with a PlayStation-licensed base it does not work, because it has no button inputs, so the missing PS button prevents it from being recognized as an active controller.

Does the Fanatec Wheel Hub pass USB data or power to my wheel?

No. It only lets the base detect that a wheel is attached. USB wheels still need their own cable to the PC, and wireless wheels with batteries work independently. Boosted Media notes Simagic's QR-A approach allows a shorter cable, which reduces tangling.

How thick is the Fanatec Wheel Hub compared with the Podium Hub?

Boosted Media and Zelpio measure the adapter at about 10 mm, versus nearly 50 mm added by the Podium Hub, so the wheel position stays more consistent when switching wheels.

Is the Fanatec Wheel Hub well built?

Zelpio reports solid build quality across the quick release, shim and electronic module, with no quality issues. The adapter is diecast aluminum with a CNC-machined, black anodized finish and an all-aluminum QR2 Wheel-Side.

Fanatec Wheel Hub or a third-party emulator adapter (SRM, Simube)?

Both reviewers note SRM offers similar emulator-based force feedback for slightly less, and Simube is cheaper but lacks the 50.8 mm pattern. The Fanatec Wheel Hub is the official option, which may matter if firmware updates affect third-party adapters.

What warranty does the Fanatec Wheel Hub have?

Fanatec advertises a 3-year warranty on all products on its US store. It updated its warranty and return policies in 2025, as reported by GTPlanet, so check the current terms for your region before purchase.

Is the Fanatec Wheel Hub good value?

On October 13, 2026 Fanatec listed it at $99.99 in the US and €99.95 in the EU. Boosted Media notes it costs only about $10 more than a QR2 alone and much less than the Podium Hub, but it is poor value if you already own a QR2 and are happy with a third-party adapter.
