Thrustmaster Hypercar Wheel Add-On

Oval leather and Alcantara wheel with forged carbon, 25 buttons and analog clutch triggers

Description

The Thrustmaster Hypercar Wheel Add-On is an oval wheel inspired by luxury hypercars, built for Thrustmaster's T818 and T598 direct drive bases.

Build. An aluminum faceplate, a forged carbon part and a rim wrapped in topstitched perforated leather with Alcantara sections. 320 × 110 × 250 mm, 1,433 g.

Controls. 25 action buttons including 4 aluminum rotary encoders, two magnetic paddle shifters with adjustable spacing and reach, and two front analog triggers that work as independent axes, throttle/brake or a dual clutch with a clutch assist function.

Lights. No screen: two configurable LEDs show RPM, flags or pit status in two display modes.

Compatibility. The next-gen quick release fits the T818 and T598, on PC, PlayStation and Xbox depending on the base. It does not fit older Thrustmaster bases. A Club Edition with a different finish is also available.

Driving style

The Hypercar Wheel Add-On suits sports cars, supercars and hypercars in Le Mans Ultimate, iRacing, Assetto Corsa Competizione and Gran Turismo 7, at steering angles of roughly 360-540 degrees. OverTake.gg and Traxion.gg both praised its build and paddles but said the oval shape is a poor fit for drifting and rally.

Best for road-car, GT and hypercar drivers on a T818 or T598 who want premium materials; less suited for rally and drift drivers, who reviewers point toward the round EVO Racing 32R.

Build quality

Premium build

It uses an aluminum faceplate, forged carbon, Alcantara rim sections and perforated leather grips, at 1,433 g. OverTake.gg found that nothing bends even under heavy force, and Traxion.gg described it as sturdy and rigid with buttons that feel well made.

Software

The wheel has no dedicated configuration app. LED modes and trigger functions are set with button combinations on the wheel, and firmware is updated through My Thrustmaster Panel on PC with a T818 or T598. OverTake.gg named the lack of real software its main complaint. On PlayStation and Xbox it works through a compatible T598.

Frequently asked questions

Which bases does the Hypercar Wheel Add-On work with?

It uses the next-gen quick release and fits the T818 and T598 natively. OverTake.gg and Traxion.gg both note there is no adapter for older Thrustmaster bases, so it is locked to the newer direct drive models.

How do the analog triggers and clutch work?

The two front triggers can act as independent axes, throttle/brake or a dual clutch with clutch assist. OverTake.gg found the bite point hard to set because it cannot be set as a percentage and must be found by feel, and Traxion.gg flagged a possible thumb injury risk from force feedback jolts.

How do the paddles feel?

The magnetic paddles use rectangular magnets and can be adjusted for spacing and reach. OverTake.gg called them a highlight, satisfying and quick, while Traxion.gg found them reliable but clunky and loud.

Does it have a display or shift lights?

No screen. Two small configurable LEDs show a simple RPM indication, blue and yellow flags, pit limiter where supported and trigger mode. OverTake.gg noted there are no real shift lights.

Is there software to configure it?

There is no dedicated tool suite: settings rely on button-combination shortcuts. OverTake.gg named this its main complaint and said the wheel would score higher with proper software. Firmware is updated through My Thrustmaster Panel on PC.

Is it good for rally and drifting?

Reviewers say no. Traxion.gg notes the oval shape limits consistent 360-degree control, and OverTake.gg recommends the round EVO Racing 32R for rally and drift; the Hypercar suits angles around 360-540 degrees.

How is the build quality?

It uses an aluminum faceplate, forged carbon, Alcantara and perforated leather, at 1,433 g. OverTake.gg found that nothing bends under heavy force, and Traxion.gg called it sturdy and rigid, though the wide grips take time to get used to.

Is it worth $399.99?

OverTake.gg rated it 4/5 and called it a pleasant surprise in quality, while Traxion.gg said it is not for everyone given its styling and ergonomics. It is strongest for road, GT and hypercar driving on a T818 or T598.

What warranty does it have?

US retailer B&H lists a limited 1-year manufacturer warranty. Manuals and firmware are on Thrustmaster's support site.
