MOZA ESX Steering Wheel for PC & Xbox — Officially Xbox-licensed 280 mm wheel that unlocks MOZA bases on Xbox

MOZA ESX Steering Wheel for PC & Xbox

Officially Xbox-licensed 280 mm wheel that unlocks MOZA bases on Xbox

Description

The MOZA ESX is a compact 280 mm steering wheel that is officially licensed for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. It contains the Xbox authentication chip, so it is the wheel that lets MOZA direct drive bases run on Xbox; it also works on PC.

Build. Aluminum alloy face plate and aluminum alloy shifter paddles with sweat-resistant, non-slip ISF polyurethane grips.

Controls. 22 customizable inputs with standard Xbox button assignments, including two joysticks, plus two shifter paddles.

Lights. A 10-LED RGB "Flow Shift" RPM indicator, adjustable in MOZA Pit House with telemetry support on PC.

Compatibility. Works only with MOZA wheel bases via the MOZA Quick Release; the 70 mm quick release adapter is sold separately, and the wheel is not supported by the Universal Hub Kit. MOZA names the R3 bundle for Xbox; retailers and buying guides report it with other MOZA bases such as the R9 and R12 V2.

Driving style

The ESX exists mainly to put MOZA bases on Xbox, so it is the wheel for Forza Motorsport, Forza Horizon and other Xbox racing games, and it also works on PC. Its small 280 mm rim and standard Xbox layout make it friendly for beginners and younger drivers, and it transfers force well on low-torque bases like the R3 and R5. On stronger bases the polyurethane grip can feel slippery. Best for Xbox players and newcomers on a MOZA base; less suited for serious PC sim racers, who get far more from the KS, CS V2P or KS Pro.

Build quality

Entry-level build

The face plate and shifter paddles are aluminum alloy, with sweat-resistant ISF polyurethane grips. Reviewers describe it as cleanly finished but plain in appearance, and the PU grip felt less grippy at up to 12 Nm. MOZA lists up to 24 months of warranty.

Software

On PC, the ESX is configured in MOZA Pit House, including button mapping and the RGB RPM indicator with telemetry. On Xbox it is plug-and-play thanks to its official license, but button mapping follows each game's Xbox control scheme, and a review reported the RPM LEDs do not work on Xbox. It does not work through the Universal Hub Kit, only on MOZA bases.

Frequently asked questions

Which MOZA bases work on Xbox with the ESX?

The ESX carries the Xbox chip, so it is what makes a MOZA base Xbox-compatible. MOZA's page names the R3 bundle and future officially supported bases; buying guides say any MOZA direct drive base works when paired with it, and a retailer confirms the R9 and R12 V2.

Does the ESX come with a quick release?

It uses the MOZA Quick Release system, but MOZA's US store sells the 70 mm quick release adapter separately. The box contains only the wheel and a sticker.

Can I use the ESX with a non-MOZA base?

No. It is designed to work only with MOZA wheel bases and is not supported by the MOZA Universal Hub Kit.

Do the ESX rev lights work on Xbox?

A review of the R3 Xbox bundle reported that the RPM indicator does not work on Xbox in any title; it works with telemetry on PC through Pit House.

Is the ESX good on a high-torque base?

A reviewer paired it with an R12 and found the PU grip not very grippy at up to 12 Nm. Its small 280 mm size works best on low-torque bases like the R3 and R5.

Can I remap all ESX buttons in Forza?

Not fully. A review found some buttons cannot take custom assignments in Forza Horizon 5 because of Xbox's control scheme; commenters cited Xbox's limited button mapping as a recurring issue.

Is the ESX worth buying for PC only?

At $129 on sale it is MOZA's cheapest wheel, but its value is mainly Xbox access. For PC-only use, the KS or CS V2P ($229 on sale) offer more inputs, magnetic paddles and better materials.

What warranty does the ESX have?

MOZA's US store lists up to 24 months of warranty protection and a 14-day returns policy.
