Alpine Racing TRX V2 Racing Simulator

Formula-to-GT convertible cockpit co-developed with Alpine F1 engineers

Description

The Alpine Racing TRX V2 is a racing simulator cockpit developed by Trak Racer with engineers from the BWT Alpine Formula One Team. Its main feature is a seating geometry that moves between Formula and GT positions in a matter of minutes.

Frame. The 2-inch tubular frame is rated for wheel bases up to 30 Nm. The strengthened pedal plate withstands up to 180 kg of braking force, slides for position and is pre-drilled for current pedal sets. Front direct drive mounting is listed for Trak Racer, Fanatec Podium DD, AccuForce, Leo Bodnar, Kollmorgen-based OSW/SimSteering and other servo bases.

Size. Trak Racer lists a 620 ร— 1507 mm footprint, an 89 kg weight and about 2 hours of assembly. The seat is not included; Trak Racer sells matching HSX hybrid Formula seats, an integrated monitor stand and D-Box motion options.

Alternatives. For GT-only driving in less space, the TR8 PRO V2 is more compact.

Driving style

The TRX V2 is made for drivers who split time between open-wheel and closed-cockpit cars: F1 games, iRacing Formula and IndyCar series, then GT3 and prototypes in ACC, Le Mans Ultimate or rFactor 2. Switching seating takes minutes rather than a rebuild, and the frame is rated for direct drive bases up to 30 Nm, with an optional D-Box motion platform.

Best for enthusiasts who want an F1-style seating position, team design and easy adjustment and have the floor space; less suited for GT-only drivers, small rooms or anyone who puts maximum rigidity first, where an aluminum profile rig fits better.

Build quality

Mid-range build

The TRX V2 uses a 2-inch tubular frame joined through a few major components with pre-installed bolts and a polished, team-livery finish. OC Sim Racing found the wheel deck solid with direct drive and motion, but saw visible flex in the pedal deck in Formula position and in the shifter mount under hard force.

Software

The TRX V2 is a mechanical cockpit and needs no software or drivers. It works with any platform the mounted wheel base, pedals and shifters support, including PC, PlayStation and Xbox.

The optional D-Box motion system uses its own software and telemetry, separate from the cockpit itself.

Frequently asked questions

How quickly does the TRX V2 switch between Formula and GT positions?

Trak Racer says it switches in a matter of minutes. OC Sim Racing timed conversions at about 1โ€“2 minutes without tools, using sliders on the seat, wheel plate and pedals.

Is a seat included with the TRX V2?

No. Trak Racer's US listing at $999 states that the Trak Racer seat is not included. Matching HSX hybrid Formula seats are sold separately; OC Sim Racing's review unit came with a fiberglass seat it valued at about $600.

Which direct drive bases can mount on the TRX V2?

Trak Racer rates it for bases up to 30 Nm and lists front mounting for Trak Racer DD, Fanatec Podium DD (without front plate), AccuForce V1/V2, Leo Bodnar, Kollmorgen AKM-based OSW and SimSteering systems and others. OC Sim Racing tested it with a Fanatec GT DD Pro and a stronger motion-rig base.

Does the TRX V2 flex?

OC Sim Racing found the wheel deck solid, but the pedal deck showed visible flex in Formula position and the shifter mount flexed most under hard force. Trak Racer says the V2 pedal plate is strengthened to 180 kg of braking force.

Is the TRX V2 hard to assemble?

Trak Racer estimates about 2 hours. OC Sim Racing found the frame simpler than aluminum profile rigs thanks to pre-installed bolts, except the wheel plate, which has many moving parts and needs two people.

TRX V2 or an aluminum profile rig?

OC Sim Racing recommends the TRX for buyers who value adjustability, design and the Formula/GT conversion, but not for GT-only drivers, those who put maximum rigidity first or anyone short on space. Trak Racer's TR120S V2 is its profile alternative rated for 30 Nm+.
